NON-PMC Merc Loadouts

So recently I went to my school library and picked up Mercenaries: Soldiers of Fortune. It was very interesting, and I got a great idea of non-PMC mercs. So I thought, how hard would it be to do a loadout for that until I get my wanted loadout? EASY. I chose the chapter: "Yugoslavia: The Killing Fields" to base my loadout on.

KIT LIST:

Propper Combat Cap, Woodland

Flight Suit, US, Sage Green

MP5 SD (UHC, planning on replacing it with the ARMY AK OMG YES I WILL WRITE A REVIEW!)

WE 1911 A1 5" (Purchasing when I get the cash)

Woodland Combat Knee Pads (Purchasing tomorrow)

Flight gloves/Kevlar US GI Issue (Also Purchasing Tomorrow)

Woodland BDU Top

A Molle vest from CTD with various accesories to fit an AK and a lot of extra stuff (including prop C4, Maps, etc..)

ARENA Flakjak

Suggestions appreciated.

I'm intending to go to my first op as a Merc.

A ChiCom is the best piece of kit you can ever own. It's simple and extremely effective. An old ALICE belt with bianchi or a an old WW2 holster is probably your best bet. Your head should have a bandana or a boonie in the summer and the ushanka or maybe a watch cap. On your top half it's good that you aren't wearing body armour and I suggest you stick to a t-shirt in the summer and in the winter a woolly pullover and or a heavy jacket of some sort. On your bottom half, you can never go wrong with a pair of US woodland BDUs and your feet should have a pair of basic leather assault boots (they are ok for use all year round). A shoulder satchel and a small backpack are ideal. One of the most important things to remember is don't have a camelback, keep 1 or 2 waterbottles on your belt instead. When it comes to weapons the AK and the MP5 are perfect and for pistols a 1911 or a CZ75 are probably your best choices.

Edit: Forgot to mention that a Khukri/Macheté/Ka-Bar never looks wrong on a decent Merc loadout.

Wow.

I picked basically most of the things you recommended, including the AK and 1911. Also, what color leather holster would you recommend? I have three choices, one in dark brown, one in black, and one in lighter brown.

I also chose slightly better than leather assault boots, Beretta Commander Boots

Ok, refined:

Summer/Spring Kit:

Various Colors of T-shirts with various logos

OD Green BDU Pants (I Prefer OD over Woodland ATM, Fleck is also a choice)

Bandanna Worn as a Skull Cap/Boonie Hat/Beret

IF it is colder/raining, US Woodland BDU Shirt

Chi-Com Chest Rig

Shoulder Satchel

FlakJaks

Brown Leather Belt/US Pistol Belt

Holster, Leather

Beretta Commander Boots

Fall/Winter Kit

German Military Sweater/Heavy Winter Coat/Hoodie

Ushanka, faux or real fur

Balaclava (For when its windy/very cold)

FlakJaks

Snow/Ski Pants/OD Green BDU pants

Beretta Commander Boots

NO PISTOL IN WINTER

In Fall, Holster and Belt

CQB/Assault Kit:

US Woodland BDU Shirt

Chi-Com Chest Rig

Flakjaks

Boonie/PASGT Replica?

Balaclava

OD Green BDU Pants

Beretta Commander Boots

Belt and Holster

Thanks for the help, Cyber Soldier, as I will also pick up various other small items.

I think it doesn't really matter what colour the holster is but it should looks worn, as should the rest of your gear. Holes in the knees of your BDU pants and a comfortable/laidback look is what you need.

You shouldn't have a specific CQB load, the best thing you can do is just shed everything you don't need (satchel & backpack) and if you want to stick with the cheap look I can suggest using a Vz61 with drum mag indoors.

I believe I have the book in question. Penned by Tim Ripley correct? I read the whole thing in a night and have wanted to be a fighting man ever since. It also prompted me to join the one and only Croatian Forces Living History Group, I would link you but the website is being done up ATM.

Some other weapons that go quite well with the look are the FN FAL M16A1, Hk33E and the Hk G3 (preferably the A3 and not the SG1 but either is passable these days)
