Whitedingo
He mentioned in the AK thread that the rust/corrosion was actually there and not a surface finish of some sort. His actual methodology for achieving those results, though, I have no idea.

ardrummer292
Probably the most ridiculous wear-job I've ever seen. Â LOVE it.
ancorp
Hehe, yup. Salt water. Â But that probably won't work with painted AKs. I chemically finished mine (Aluminum black and cold bluing), then wore it down, polished, saltwatered, let it sit (and corrode/rust), and then clean and polish again. Â And yes the body is a cheap aluminum Element brand AK-74 body. Modding on the folding stock was a *badgeress*. Aluminum corrodes in white, steel corrodes in rust (orangish-brown) color. Â I'm quite satisfied with how it turned out really. And what a great response from everyone, thanks

Lance Jackass
Â They used to be mine. The top one was an attempt at realistic wear. The bottom one was erm...not having the right disassembly tools.
kliskey
If I am honest LJ, I cant see any wear on the top one (Unless I am mistaking it for light reflections ) Â The bottom one on the other hand is more evident, but artifical as you said... Although, the mag looks ok Edited April 27, 2008 by kliskey
Lance Jackass
Its not a great picture, but all the plastic was scratched up and the paint had come off the forward assist, carrying handle and all the raised profiles. I'll find a better picture...
BentleyCntlGT
I'm working on my SLR, but does anyone have any tips for wearing the plastic? Titleist
That AK needs to be bashed around and worn down like a mofo, seriously. Light use AKs = boring. BEAT IT UP!

DarkLite
Any tips or tricks? Â Tie a long cord around the front sight, then tie the other end to your belt. Â Then run as fast as you can around a large area of concrete, making sure the AK bounces around and follows you. Â Check it every five minutes or so to see if it's worn enough. Whitedingo
Tie a long cord around the front sight, then tie the other end to your belt. Then run as fast as you can around a large area of concrete, making sure the AK bounces around and follows you.  Check it every five minutes or so to see if it's worn enough.  Start with blacktop, then concrete, then fine sand. It's like different grits of sandpaper!
choffman10
I actually I'll try that... except with my driveway (Stones) and run through thick woods. Â Too bad it's faux wood.
