holy cow, they better be coming out with an AEG dragunov...

Am i reading that right? Why would you want a AEG SVD? JG has one anyway. Now if you wanted a semi automatic SVD then i agree especially if its a decent price, however gas is much more fun and hopefully wont turn out like the Marui PSG-1

But hay look a RS advert with a little Christmas hello at the side :P

what does it matter if its supposed to be an SVD it aint anywhere close and thus theres still room for a decent one on general release.

Could go both ways either gas as per the QBU88 or using same gearbox design as the type 81 be interestign to see which way they jump (Im leaning towards them probably going for more of a mass market appeal by using the gearbox design from the type 81).

yeah, AEG SVD would equal EPIC fail.

*holds SVD*

mmm, nice

*pulls trigger* REAWH!

... damn =(

be interesting to see how they excecute the SVD, if it is full stroke GBB NOTHING will get in my way of buying it. i dont care how bloody loud it is, the loader the better, as long as it kicks and does a consistant 400fps (preferably adjustable) and can shoot straight i;d be happy.

oh, and that tacticool T56 makes jesus grow his fringe over one eye, listen to my chemical toilet and cut himself.

better start defining full stroke then or you'll be in for a long wait - theres no such thing when it comes to gas blow back AKs. Best you'll get on paper is around 60mm of recoil travel using any of the current blowback designs and even thats way more than any of the current and planned designs are actually offering.

escort have done it with both an AK and SVD. im talking about gas here, not gearboxes. and yes it would have to be designed from scratch, something which RS have already proved they arent afraid to do.

no they havent try taking a decent look at escort designs before claiming that (or at veryleast take a close look at the vids) - the escort system in an AK is good for 60mm of blowback max after that you run out of room at the rear of the gun and as Escort has set them up the recoil stroke is substantially less than that

none of the existign blow back designs are capable of it

why? because they all rely in one shape or another in an expanding telescoping tube Thus the inner tube must be no shorter than the length of the travel the outer tube is going to make (or the outer tube is going to fall off/disengage from the end of the inner lol)

Make the inner tube 90mm long you could have 90mm of stroke Trouble is the all up expanded length would then be 180 mm (the 90mm at rest plus the 90mm of stroke) and thats too long for an AK receiver particularly when you consider where the hop unit mag feed are in relation to the breech of the real gun

In practce to gain a 90mm stroke you'ld need even more room than 180mm - once you take into account the valve system at rear of an escort system, aditional travel of the airshaft thru the valve, thickness of the rear of the outer chamber etc etc.

I'd expect travel on a typical escort AK to be around 40mm to 45mm or so. Course you can draw the bolt back by hand a bit further by using a sleeved two part bolt design (where hand cycling of the bolt will give you say 20mm or 30mm or so of travel before the blowback unit gets picked up and starts to move along with it) - but that only applies when your cycling the bolt by hand. When the blowback unit is doing the work itself then that slack isnt there to be taken up

compare that to the 130mm or so of travel of a real AK bolt - which simply has to recoil along a set of rails against a recoil spring (under the momentum of firing a round and gas expanding in a piston chamber ahead of the breech face of the bolt) so long as the full stroke isnt so long that the gas piston gets blown fully out of the gas tube theres nothing to worry about.

thats a full stroke: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9p5YZLICfyM :) note where the cocking lever reaches and how far back the front of the gas piston has traveled

in anycase if you're after a decent consistent 400 FPS semi auto gas sniper rifle then last Id use is a blowback mechanism You'ld be far better off with NBB, I can get 400 out of the MP44 but its not spot on 400 every shot you still get a minor shot to shot variation

Plus the escort system shoots on its exhaust stroke which means the recoils taken place before the BB goes down the spout (its only at end of the cycle when the airshaft collar is picked up by the bolt that the forward transfer port in the airshaft is fed the contents of the gas thats accumulated in the chamber) hardly ideal for a dedicated sniper rifle.
