Cold War Airsoft.

Recommended Posts

Is anyone else interested in Cold War era airsoft and equipment, ive seen a few BW moleskin loadouts in the BW thread and some NVA in the Russian thread. I think cold war era kit looks realy cool, and im about to get an NVA loadout.

This is what i have in mind for NVA kit

Strichtarn Uniform +shoulder boards and suspenders

Helmet with net

Y harness

Belt

mag pouch

water bottle

Gasmask and gasmask bag

weapon will be an AK47.

Im looking for NVA field boots but i cant find any in my size (EU46 UK12)

(I also think this might be the first post of 2008) (edit) (its actually the second)

Not sure if it counts, but I've been collecting equipment for the past several years related to Operation Earnest Will (when the Cold War started to get a bit hot). Specifically, a Navy AFC on board MSB Hercules or Wimbrown 7. I've posted what I have collected so far on other topics...I think.

Strichtarn used to be available at dime-a-dozen prices in the early '90's - I picked up a complete set with insignia at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin in October 1990 for about $5.

It seems to be getting harder to find now - but there's still plenty of places around. Personally, I've always been keen on doing an NVA Fallschirmjaeger impression. Maybe I'll have to set that out as one of my New Year's resolutions. ;)

It would be wicked cool to do a big Cold War game at a defunct military base or missile site.

These guys have a great selection of NVA kit - I just ordered a Fallschirmjaeger BDU set from them: http://www.gowenmilitaria.com/catalog.html

If you can read German, these guys have loads too: http://nva.4mg.com/

And this is interesting, a REPRO Fallschirmjaeger battle vest: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=341256

Now, does anybody make an AKM-style AEG?

springfields in burton upon trent have a lot of the winter padded strictarn very cheap, all you have to do is cut the padding out,

I wish I lived in Burton 'pon Trent.

What I'm really looking to do is get together a 32bn/Koevoet impression from the South African border war - Strichtarn shirt/pants, SA webbing, an AK, etc. It's probably one of the less common Cold War loadouts.

It´s sort of funny that the "late" NVA Webbin Harness was actually a copy of the british Pattern 58 Webbing harness, made from a tricky nylon fabric. The pouches were indeed the usual AK ones. But the Belt, Yoke was a more ore less 1.1 copy

Okay - assuming one puts a nice East German or other USSR / Warsaw Pact loadout together - what about goggles? Any good retro-looking ones out there???

By the way, I've seen the tutorial abiout how to convert a pair of Soviet pilots' goggles - but I'm thinking more along the lines of something acceptable that you can buy off-the-shelf...
