Post Nuke/Apocalype Loadouts.

Recommended Posts

Well, I had a day of freedom and boredom today so I decided to start the beginnings of a 2008Post-Nuke loadout, with just what I had around, and I think it's turned out alright for an initial put-together.

With a few more specialist items, maybe a couple of my team-mates to join in and a decent photographer (not me trying to self-timer my SLR off a tripod!) I think we could come up with a nifty photoshoot with a slight role-play element in it.

See this as a teaser...

'The Armoury' is finally taking shape. Starting off as store room, we're now basically dumping everything of importance in there, including most of our firearms! So far we have managed to get hold of an M4 in a suppressed CQB config (great for night raids!), a 10/22 Ruger .22 rimfire for hunting, a SPAS-12, a Beretta 92FS, as well as a good few civilian sporting shotguns and a couple of air rifles for small game hunting. The attached picture only shows a couple, as the guys have been out on raid since last night to the nearest town, 5 miles away. I think Chris did a check this morning of our ammunition; and as you can see, shotgun rounds arn't a problem - around 5000 assorted 12 and 20 gauge shotgun cartridges in various shot loads, 500 rounds of .22 rimfire, but we only have around 300 rounds of .223 Remington and 9mm - hopefully the lads will have found some when they get back tomorrow. It's been a bit hectic recently on the combat front, although going out at night seems to keep us from trouble...I'm guessing anyone's that left is too scared to go out at dark, hardly surprising when there's the constant sound of gunfire in the distance. How did it come to this?

2008 Post-Nuke:- Buzzsaw

-Crye Precision Multicam Shooters Cap

-Regatta High Performance-Wicking Base Layer

-Craghoppers Kiwi Hiking Trousers

-S'95 British DPM Rip-Stop Jacket

-Regatta Survivor 65-Litre Rucksack

-Blackhawk Industries SERPA Drop-Leg Holster

-AquaLung U.S Divers Diving Knife, Shin-Mounted

-HiTec V-Lite Goretex Boots

-Survival Knife, Talkabout Radio, Cell Phone, Compass, Survival Tin in various pockets.

-M4 CQB-SD w/ AimPoint & home-made Shock Cord+Bungee Rope sling

-Beretta 92FS

Personally i'm not quite sure on the MC cap, at the moment I think I'm looking a bit UKSF...so a suggestion here would be appreciated. :D But basically i'm trying to keep my gear to reasonably-readily avaliable stuff, mostly things I'd be able to loot from hiking and army surplus stores! As for things to come...I'm thinking CB Radio, Map Case for OS Maps that I can put all sorts of markings on (I Am Legend style!), further weaponary and hopefully team mates who are also attired for a Post-Nuke situation! :P

But yeah...am very much looking for C&C here as this is a really fun loadout to do (even if it's not for airsoft!).

*Quick Disclaimer - Some pictured firearms and ammunition are real, and ALL of the correct licensing is owned. Thanks!*

How I would recommend you change the kit list:

-Ball cap for football/soccer team of your choice (The MC cap seems too techy.)

-Regatta High Performance-Wicking Base Layer

-Craghoppers Kiwi Hiking Trousers

-S'95 British DPM Rip-Stop Jacket

-Small book bag from a local department store (You don't need a ruck that big unless you're some sort of nomad. If I read your desc properly, you aren't.)

-Common UK duty pistol holster or military flap holster (Your original selection being very American (made right here, where I live!) and, IMHO, not entirely up to the long-term rigors of post-apoc combat.)

-AquaLung U.S Divers Diving Knife, Shin-Mounted

-HiTec V-Lite Goretex Boots

-Survival Knife, Talkabout Radio, Cell Phone, Compass, Survival Tin in various pockets.

-Diemaco C8, L85A2, L1A1, G36 w/ irons, or Kalashnikov w/ home-made Shock Cord+Bungee Rope sling (Your original selection seems far too techy to be anything appropriate for a post-apoc setting, unless you're part of some elite force in the employ of, say, a corporation. In which case, your clothing would be utterly and completely different.)

-SiG Sauer P226 or BHP (More "English" than your original selection. ;))

Thanks for your input! :)

-Definately agree with the MC cap, I will look round for something a bit more civi-style.

-The big ruck is for long patrols/scavanges, but agreed, for day-to-day use I have something smaller.

-The thing about holsters is that around where I live (and around where this loadout is based on), there's no where a real decent military/duty holster would be avaliable for looting. I chose the SERPA because in the Firearms Dealership I work in, we are Blackhawk dealers, so it seemed like a good choice! :P

-Yep, the M4 will be replaced by something suitably robust.

-Again, 9mm pistols are far and few between here thanks to the ban, I figured a standard US Military side-arm would be avaliable on the Black Market? ;)

Good suggestions though...gonna play around more today.

I would think that a pistol issued to UK forces (and thus probably fairly popular with armed police, which is to say nothing of the number that were probably taken home as "souvenirs" by vets) would be easier to find than a pistol commonly issued to US forces and, thus, somewhat more rare in the UK than the SiG-Sauer or the Browning. That's not to say that it would be impossible to find laying around somewhere, just not the most likely of firearms.

Of course, this brings up an interesting difference between American and British post-apoc load-outs. We (Americans) would have the greater selection of pistols but a lesser selection of rifles! (Sheer quantity and rifles in 7.62mm NATO not with-standing.)

How much of that can you source locally? Do police in your area issue Glock 19s or another handgun in 9mm?

And I would dump anything (except a lantern or flashlight/torch) that requires batteries. There is nothing that is nearly as useful as lights when it comes to the use of batteries. So that means no GPS and no radio. Binos are useful for spotting bad things a long way off. And good things. Unless you're a scout or nomad, you won't need the map, as you'll be entirely local and, thus, should be able to find your way around. For a knife, you should pick a local retailer at random (unless you have a favorite), walk it, and pick one from what they have on hand at the time. Similarly, you should pick a holster up from a local retailer (unless you have your heart set on something else, something more in character). Finally, if you're going to have a map, you'll need a compass. And on top of all of that, you should have an M65 field jacket (if you're in the desert, mountains, or anywhere else it can get a bit chilly) and a milsurp rain poncho. If you're some place warm, I would ditch the utilities for a tanktop, t-shirt, or green, khaki, or brown button-up, short-sleeved shirt (esp. one with epaulets) and a matching tan. :P

A lot of it I can get from around town. There's a gunstore about a ten minute walk from my place, they also have knives and holsters, so I imagine much of my gear will come from there. I also know where I can pick up the Ka-Bar. For some reason I can't edit my list, so let it be known that I'll be replacing the Daggert with a SOG Team Leader, which said gunstore has in stock. As for clothing, for hot weather my olive drab high school t-shirt will do. And an black Old Navy fleece for colder weather.

And yes, a radio does use batteries, but if there are others survivors working with you, you'd need a way of communicating if you're out looking for supplies.

Thanks for the insight on the GPS and such. I still think a map of the local area and a compass would be a good thing to have. I personally live in a suburban neighborhood close to the edge of town, so a good map of downtown could come in handy. You could mark which buildings you've searched, which ones are likely occupied by possibly hostile survivors, etc.

Sadly, I only get sunburned. It's almost impossible for me to tan.

How do you communicate with other survivors? By talking to them. :P

I wouldn't expect there to be much fighting against your own community (and what fighting there is will be fast, brutal, and likely in small groups). More likely, it would come from neighboring communities.

Smoke signals. :P

Things won't change that fast. And if they do, you're screwed anyway. That and a Motorola Talkabout isn't what I'd call a long-range radio. :P If there is a radio, it would be large and installed at an OP. It would probably be a back-up for a landline. Any individual patrols would be sufficiently well-armed to defeat most raiders and know the land well-enough to E&E to an OP well ahead of any raiders too numerous or too well-armed to be tackled by the patrol.

In any case, it's something 'nice'. Not something needed. So it gets left at home. ;) Or at least that's my two Yen.

Pleasure. :P

I'm in need of an AK47S, a few more bits and a very very rainy day here so I can try and get some 'mood' pics.

I agree with Jagdraben on the radio though, your base would have a large CB radio(s) or similiar operating on numerous frequencies (assuming you were on the edge of the blast zone and EMP didn't take out your equipment, Skarclaw ;) ), however I still believe a talkabout radio would be useful for short range chatter.

As for batteries...just hope noone's looted Tescos/Walmart/where-ever before you get there... :P

My donation to this thread is not my own creation, but just saw the full length trailer for Terminator Salvation today.

Maybe there is some inspiration for loadouts in it. I myself is working on some in that style. Hopefully I can display it soon, but who knows....

Anyway enjoy the trailer.... ;)
