The Crunchy Bunny
Simo Hayha, the best sniper in the history of mankind. 542 confirmed kills. Plus another probable 200 he killed with a sub machine gun. He's also my hero.
Samm
@Gadge: you cant apply conventional wisdom to a modern, urban counter insurgency. When i was in Iraq, 9 times out of 10 the best positions for sniper pairs were on rooftops, most of which are completely surrounded by unbroken walls of some kind. Short of kicking a portion of wall down (which works wonders for hearts and minds) the best fire position is on top of the wall. Not to be an *albartroth* but isn't this what the situation would call for, or is a hole int' wall a more permanent solution for a OP?
Loe
hes using the super sniper scope.....wonder if he's even mil.
Shriven
That sort of thing ( the hole from which to shoot from) looks like it'd only be useful if you know where the threat is coming from, and narrows your field of view considerably. Darkchild probably has a clue about this sort of stuff as well Only places I've seen pictures/videos of people sniping from in Iraq/A'stan is on top of buildings or inside the buildings, out of windows whatnot, but that's normally in particullarly vicious firefights where the sniper is firing at targets which are most definetely shooting back. darkchild130
As a trained sniper i wouldnt use a hole like that to shoot from as it severely restricts your arcs. I would use it as an aperture for an OP though, it would be perfect for reporting on a static enemy position. But SOPs vary from nation to nation, so my opinion isnt necessarily right. bernd
In that pic with the barret: Is that an old BGS sumpftarn jacket ?
Cryozen
I have yet to see a photo of a barret M82 (or any variant of said gun) in a ghillie or rifle wrap of some sort, is there a reason for this? Or have I not seen enough photos yet? Edited January 28, 2009 by Cryozen
Pkekyo-Nor
I'd say it's due to the shots being PR related and the intention is "Ooh! Look at this huge honking cannon we've got!". I know this to be a fact with some Barret shots.
Dragoondark
It could be also that the barret may just be to heavy for a sniper to stalk around with. Most pictures I've seen with .50 cal rifles are FOB defense or strong point defense i.e. fixed defensive positions as opposed to an aggressive offensive operation
Fatal
Our team carried it in a bag and just set up a position. But this is in the city and no real need to have anything on it.

reaper16
That position is designed to give him a stable shooting platform i would suppose so that he does not have to go prone, i.e its quicker i would assume.
