UTG M3 Shotgun

Alright, well, this is my first review, and, considering I do not have the shotgun with me at present (a friend of mine who actually owns it just let me mess with it for a day) there will be no pictures. Anyways, so, first review, I guess I'll try to do what everyone else does.

 

Packing: Secure. The gun was not about to move around within the box. Need to dust the styrofoam off the weapon once you pull it off.

 

First Impressions: It looks nice, it really does. Bigger than I thought it would be too, considering I've never handled the TM shotguns. Once you pick it up, you know this thing is solid. I mean SOLID. I really don't know what you would have to do to break the thing. There isn't a whole lot of metal, but trust me, this thing can take a beating. (Also, the one I handled is the pistol grip version).

 

Use/Performance/Etc.?: Alright, well the pump action is certainly harder than any other shotgun I've used. It is possible to do one handed pumps if you brace it against your body, but other than that, you'll need to keep a firm grip. But it's also satisfying hearing that loud click. You know it means business. Anyways, the true allure of this weapon is the fact that it shoots three bb's at once, through three separate barrels (most people know this) allowing a shotgun style spread. Depending on the bb's you use, you can tighten or loosen the spread (.20's or .25's, .12's not reccommended). I believe only the top barrel has hop-up, judging by the way the bbs were flying, but I oculd be mistaken. Also, I couldn't find an area to adjust hop, although I don't have the instruction manual, and to be honest, didn't check the weapon that much, because it isn't for long range engagements. That aside, performance is good, I chrono'd it at an average of 277 FPS (madbull chrono with .20's). It does sting when you get shot with it, make no mistake. Especially because there is three bb's.

It's use for CQB would be great, or at least I imagine so. To be honest, I play almost exclusively woodland (lack of sites around here). However, our engagement distances vary, because some of our field is very close-combat oriented, and some is very long range. Incidently, the guy on our team who is using the shotgun runs our mortar (yes, a couple guys on our team have created a mortar for use in airsoft, and they are considering trying to market it, so if you're interested, contact me), and anyways, he needs a last-ditch close combat weapon, so he figured this would be a good choice. I agree. And, the price is right too, with the shotgun costing $60 at most US retailers, and $15 for 6 extra shells.

 

Overall: Overall I would definitely reccommend this weapon. It's solid, it seems to be an able performer (although I wouldn't go pitting it against snipers or even veterans with AEG's, simply because the volume of fire would be too much). Good n00b weapon as well, considering it's cost-efficient, and you actually play a game with it. If anybody has questions, I'll do my best to answer them.

i was looking to buy a shotgun as a side arm as i am a sniper annd was wondering if you would suggest the UTG M3 over the benneli M4??
