Couple of questions for you on the AUG, yes i have looked over the hepldesk here and the picture thread, so please don't shoot me.

1, There is is a small problem with the version 3 mechbox moving back wards over time but can be fixed with a easy mod?

2, Easy to change out barrel setup between games by loosing a couple of screws (warning be careful of the hopup unit, wears out over time)?

3, Only difference between the TM, JG and CA mechbox is that the CA uses 7m bushing in there's and not all parts will fit the CA AUG?

So if all of the above is correct you have a AEG that can fit QCB, standard assault riffle and snipper roll's, all you have to do is change out your barrel setup?

If i am wrong please tell me so.

thanks

I've not had a problem with the gearbox migrating backwards. The panel that separates the battery compartment from the gearbox should hold it in place.

There are no screws holding the barrel module in place. Simply hold the cocking handle to the rear and press the barrel release catch and slide it off forwards. Make sure you've not got a magazine fitted when you do this!

There does seem to be some minor differences between the CA and TM AUGs. The JG seems to be identical to the TM in every way that I'm aware of. The CA is generally higher quality though, has better trades and so forth.

The AUG - with an outlandish input of cash to acquire spare barrel parts which are not easy to come by - can serve any purpose you want with only one gearbox. See the photographs of Project AUG for information on this.

The standard gearbox 'retaining' plate is plastic. It's strong enough but can crack around the two screw holes, especially if the gun is dropped or roughly placed butt-down on the ground too often.

Also, I think the rubber pad on the plate that bears on the back of the gearbox compresses over time, allowing the gearbox to move rearwards slightly.

A metal replacement is easy enough to make, with a more durable pad as well you shouldn't have the problem.

It can also usefully double-up as a heat-sink for your MOSFET...what do you mean you don't have a MOSFET? :P

With a metal plate, you can also afford to make it 'minimal' enough to make room for an axtra cell on a ('humpback') minipack.

MY CA has 6mm bushings, but it's from a early batch so it may have changed over time.... Internally, the CA and TM models are identical and fully interchangeable. The only major difference between the boxes is the CA gearbox has a different sliding plate on top with a different way of mounting the ejector cover (better than the TM design imo).

Got to stop you there, I'm afraid. The part which feeds BBs from the magazine into the hop-up chamber (ST-20 on the TM parts list) is not the same on the TM and CA versions. If you've got the whole assembly from a CA one, it will work in a TM, and likewise a TM will work in the CA, but you can't make a working one from some CA parts and some TM parts.

If that makes any sense?

I, of course, mean this part:

tm_augst20.jpg

(That's the TM version)

As far as I can tell, the actually gearboxes themselves are as near to identical as makes no difference, and gearbox parts which work in one version will work in all versions. Likewise with external cosmetic parts such as rails and things of that nature. The barrel parts are certainly and most definitely interchangable...

That gearbox plate of mine is pretty useless at the moment, as I lost one of those square nuts that hold it in place. I'm also looking for another hopup rubber cover so if anyone knows where I can get both, I'd be a happy man !

It would be really helpful, guys, if when asking about parts, you could refer to the TM parts list and give the ST code so we're all on the same page. The TM Parts list is linked in the first post of this thread.

I think I sold my spare flat-top receiver rail. Leonardinjapan might be able to get it, if he's still around. See one of Stunt's posts earlier in this thread for more information.

Failing that, you'll have to keep checking around the for sale forums to see if someone's breaking an AUG and buy the receiver.

This is really a thread for problems with the AUG, not supply problems. Surprisingly, I don't have the stock lists for every airsoft retailer on the planet commited to memory...

The last ones I bought came from WGC, if I recall correctly. But that was some time ago...

Does anyone have experience with the HP AUG hbar kit? I am planning to get this along with a CA AUG A1 so here are a few questions I want to clear up before I make my purchase...

Does it fit the CA AUG? Is it sturdy enough for skirmishing? Will it affect the performance of the gun? is the metal hopup good enough for occasional barrel swaps? Is the gun's hopup good? Is it a good DMR setup? Do I need to modify it to make it fit/work? thanks...

I was ask to post this, also think it could be useful:

Realsteal Stuff:

There are 2 Companies, which clone the AUG:

TPD: http://www.tpdusa.com/categories.php

and MSAR: http://www.msarinc.com/STGE4.html

- some Versions look very nice, could give an idea for some projects

You can use some RS Parts for your AEG (e.g. the barrel folding grip with some grinding)

one shop i found here, but im sure you can also ask your local weapon dealer: http://www.pjs-steyraug.com/augusrparts.html

Other Shop with some Parts: http://www.steyrarms.com/store/index.php/spare-stocks.html

Steyr AUG/A3 SA USA Manual with details about the parts (diagrams):

My Barrel Grip is broken, can i use the RS one?

Yes, you just have to grind it a little at the top.

You can get it from your local weapon store or some online shops like:

this one in the USA: http://www.pjs-steyraug.com/augusrparts.html (45 USD)

this german one: http://www.teilesatz.de/dts_detail.php?id=112&Chap=2 (36 EUR)

Differences between AS-AUG-Barrel Grip and RS Barrel Grip:

5mm longer than TM Grip

Much more quality:

Marui: 50g, cheap plastic (~ 2-3mm thick), die-cast aluminium

Original RS: 102g, massive plastic (~ 6-8mm thick), Steel !!! and feels much better!

Here a pic (bad one) left = TM, right = RS

The AUG's gearbox is slightly different from a standard V3, due to the modifications required for the two-stage trigger instead of the more common fire selector. As far as I know, that's the only difference, and everything else - piston, gears, etc - are the same.

Having used TM, CA and JG AUGs, I can say with a fair degree of confidence that there are no significant differences between them. The vast majority of parts will fit any of the AUGs. CA and the others are all clones of the TM original designs, with some little tweaks here and there.

The gearboxes are pretty much identical across the three makes I have experience with.
