Cream of the crop SMG discussion

Hey guys!

Sorry for my last post, I really am sorry.

Anywho, I dont see many SMG threads, and I am kinda interested in the little buggers. I will be buying a few soon. I thought I may share my findings with you guys and see what you think.

Supposedly, the 2 best SMGs for primary use on the market right now are the CA MP5s, and the TM P90.

I am pretty sure that I will buy both, just because I cant decide lol.

I never see anyone using SMGs in woodland, and I can never figure out why. You just have get in peoples faces more, I know from using one. Honestly I find using them to be very enjoyable, not as much as GBB though lawl.

Does anyone else like "runnin and gunnin"? ^_^

well, i don't play woodland, but i do run almost exclusively SMG's for my CQC play. I run an MP5KPDW and i think its incredible, i like it better than almost every MP5 variant, save the SD6 since its grip is SO much better...when i get more into woodland, i'll be running a DMR platform most of the time, but i may switch off to back up my friend as the DMR, and then i'll be running my MP5K again, super ROF!

I use my AKS74UN in woodland all the time (depending on who you ask its classed as a sub machine gun-the real one that is) and tend to get more kills than those with longer, more traditional rifles. Of course the tightbore and a decent hop unit don't hinder it at all!

I have also used/owned an MP5SD6 and P90 both of which were used with great success in woodland. As for lack of SMGs on the skirmish field i can assure you they are still there, at least 1/3 of all the players at my site use them (as primary) and about 3/4s of the players own one.

Whats the deal with the P90 hicaps? Do they feed or not? I get different answers from everyone lol.

My experience is that they are fine with correct loading & regular maintenance.

1. After filling, hold back the feed spring & shake the mag. This sort of lines up the bb's & helps smooth feeding.

2. At the first sign of trouble, take them apart & lube all the moving parts. This includes the area where the bb's are held. This is just a very fine coating as you don't want it getting into your hop via the bb's. This has to be done regularly (maybe every 3rd game day) in damp conditions.

Happy feeding!

Greg.

Wouldnt an AKS-74U still be considered a rifle? It fires the exact same round as the full length AK-74. It's just shorter. My definition of a SMG is a gun that fires pistol rounds. But in airsoft its all the same.

(As far as I am aware) what defines a 'SMG' in military terminology ISN'T the size of the weapon, but the size of the ammunition it fires.

The 5.45mm round that the AK74U (or variants) fires designates this as a carbine/assault rifle, even though it is as short as some sub-rifle munition firing 'SMGs'.

The defining line has been a little blurred these days because of the new 'intermediate' rounds fired by the likes of the P90 and MP7.

But I would use the guideline that any calibre that is being used in an infantry RIFLE decides what is a rifle.

I've been looking into getting an SMG for CQB games and I do love MP5's but they are so common that I want to get something a bit different. I was thinking about maybe a G3 SAS with a full stock or extending MP5 stock, any recommendations? Hmmm or maybe a SIG 552! I would class it as a carbine but I guess it would be small enough for CQB and it is very SMGish with the folding stock and all. Sorry to go a bit off topic

I use an ICS MP5A4 as my current primary and i love it. I lose a smidgen of range but its nicer to carry and feels better to use than my Armalites. At my local site (GZ) most of the rentals are TM mp5s but apart from that, very few of the regulars sport SMGs.

Also, since ive switched to an MP5, people keep commenting on how "cool" my fake Eotech is, but when i had it my M4 nobody ever said anything. I have no idea why that is.

@apocalypsemeow: personally i'd go for a G3 SAS with full stock, i think they look ally as F**K! But i cant buy another gun yet or my wife will hang me by my nuts <_<

The UMP is looking quite good to me these days. Saw the DE UMP the other day and was quite nice. P90s are good but you need to do a little maintenance on the hi-cap mags. MP5s are among my favourite though great compact design. Guns like the AK SU/beta I would class as an SMG as that's what the designers intended them to be, though a lot of people define an SMG as a gun that fires pistol rounds.

AEP guns are great for CQB but they lack the FPS for long distance engagements, sure they can reach 30-40meters but BB flight time is very long

None of which makes any difference in airsoft since they all fire little plastic balls.

G36c is an "assault rifle" and yet has the same barrel length as a P90. And the P90 has a better hop-up.

The biggest problem with using SMGs in woodland is simply aiming them accurately.

Even if the MP5k was intrinsically capable of equal performance to a P90 (for example) you'd struggle to hit your target as easily simply because it's harder to hold the gun at aim and the sights aren't as good.

The performance of airsoft guns hardly ever equates to the performance of a real-steel gun except in the filed of ergonomics.

A real gun that's more suitable for CQB will also provide a similar airsoft gun because of ergonomics.

Equally, a real gun that is commonly used for up to 500m ranges (such as the M4 or L85) is sure to perform well as an airsoft gun for woodland.

Well from those I would get the MP5. The Sig and G3 are good, but the mags are really pricy. I wont buy a marui gun unless it is REALLY good IE P90 Desert Eagle.

The MP5 Mags are dirt cheap, $60 for 8 90rd mags. Even the hicaps can be bought for $20 $25. Although I really dont like either of the other choices lol.

Catman: DO NOT BUY A DE UMP! I got one and it blew terribly, read my review in the database for details.

I love how the UMP feels, but G&G DE and Star dont really make a halfway decent one so far IMO.

If you get lucky, the G&G would be the one to go for. A buddy of mine uses one and it is great, but I have seen 4 other G&G UMPs that have MANY issues.

I love my Escort mp5, I've also got a ICS mp5 but it feels like a toy compared to the Escort.

Outsie the mp5 range I like the AK Beta S style, which I don't class as a SMG cause it fires rifle ammo, but some people class it as a SMG. Colt classes the M4 series as SMG's so maybe I'm wrong.

I also liek the ACM MP40, it takes a little time to get use too, and if I could find, or make a Sten gun I'll take that too :)

I go from liking to really disliking the P90, but that's just personal choice. It comes down to what ever fits you best.

What about the M4 Patriot then as it fires the standard round but is without a doubt not a fully fledged assault rifle! :P

Why does everyone *badgeress* about the P90 hicaps!? I maintained mine like all of my mags every 6 or so games and rarely ever had a problem, certanly no more than any other hicap i have seen <_<

my bro just picked up a brand new B&T CA MP5, and it is amazing. simple as that. as for using long/short guns in woodland - it makes no difference whatsoever. ive always used MP5's or my CAR15 in woodland, and cant say i ever noticed a difference when switching to an Ak or G36K. it just doesnt matter, and as such its a choice of looks or function. for me, running through the woods with MY littel CAR15 is a lot easier than using an M16 or M14 etc. not only that, at my local site a game can quickly run from woods to scrubland to urban in a amtter of minutes, so having the shorter gun gives me maximum manouverability in the urban, but no detrimental affects in the woods.

so yeah, just pick a gun you like the look of.

Opps,

Sorry not all M4's, just there shorter versions of the M4's

However, manufacturers such as Colt, Heckler & Koch, and Zastava Arms have referred to compact carbines as submachine guns, to emphasize their short length and to differentiate them from longer carbines.

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XM177 <== I know wikipesia is ot the best refernece source, but it's easy to search and I've seen it before somewhere else too :P

The marui Mac 10 AEP is about $270 for the full set right?

The old marui uzi is $215 plus battery, so about $235, and it is a full AEG. So why would you buy the mac 10 unless the uzi is really bad? lol I almost bought the uzi a few days ago, I still want it. Anyone had one?

Oh and 1 thing, ICS MP5 EPIC FAIL
