chas
If I wanted to have warm weather pants and shorts tailored, what type of material should I get? Are any of the products linked to below useful for this? http://www.rockywoods.com/Fabrics-Kits/Lightweight-Nylon-Taffeta-Fabrics?search=aor2 Cheers!
Eklam
None of the fabrics. You want ny/co or preferably poplin (a looser weave fabric for summer clothing). Ebay will probably have some aor2 or NWU iii.
chas
OK. So these are for gear rather than clothing? I saw ripstop and thought this was ideal, since I got some ripstop shorts last summer and they are light yet durable.
Eklam
Cordura for gear. The ripstop that they have is more suitable for lightweight wind/waterproofs.
talon_0315
Along those lines, does anyone know a good source for NYCO 50/50 clothing fabric in ranger green? Edited April 6, 2015 by talon_0315

luke213
Hey guys I've taken an interest lately in doing some DIY gear, DIY Tactical seems to be unavailable for the last few weeks I've been looking into things. I'm an old school airsoft player for 10+ years ago that recently got back into the game. For a living I make leather holsters etc and I've been looking at building some airsoft gear for myself. Here is an example of one of my rigs, this one happens to be shark hide: Anyways on topic I'm not super familiar with the benifits of certain styles of say mag carriers etc, so I'm looking for a place where I can read and research what guys like and why. I'd rather not buy a ton of gear just to figure out what works for me, I don't mind building some different styles and seeing what works but I'd like to do enough research to be able to limit the options somewhat to the most likely to work options. Also I've got little experience stitching things other than leather;) I bought some 1000D Cordura and some 1in. webbing along with a few other bits that I'll need but I really could use some guides or walkthroughs on how guys have done some of their gear. That would help allot to gather the concepts of how this stuff is really put together under the hood so to speak. I would guess that DIY Tactical had some of that info if it were available, but I'm looking for somewhere else apparently that would have some of that info. I'm not ready to actually start building anything but I'd like to be able to dig into the concepts a little deeper on assembly. I imagine if I had sewn other fabric items in the past I'd have a better idea how things are done but my experience is very limited to the things I do in my shop. So a point in the right direction of a forum or group that has some begginer level guides and howto's would be appreciated. I haven't decided if I'm going to use a smaller commercial sewing machine or my big machine yet, I'll need to do some testing. My big machine runs heavy thread but I can punch through 3/4in. of sole leather, so I should be able to punch through anything under the foot when it comes to frabric but it's likely going to be like driving finishing nails with a sledgehammer;) I do have some nice OD 346 bonded nylon thread though that I haven't had much use for in holsters, that I'd like to see go to some use;) So we'll see on that front but I'm just lacking in the background info to give it a try. Also very nice work to the guys posting their gear in this thread, in my spare time over the last few days I've been paging through looking at every post and some neat stuff;) Take care!Luke
Moofrikkintastic
I think DIYTactical is the main place tbh. I really hope it goes up again soon, not even being able to trawl through the topics already there is really frustrating. Cool holster btw!
luke213
Just out of curiosity how long has it been down? I've only been looking for a little while but I wasn't sure if it had been down for months, or weeks or what. Just wondering;) Thanks!Luke
Moofrikkintastic
Not sure, but someone on their facebook asked if it was still down a month ago, so a month and a bit I guess.
