gonzo1
I really don't mean to monopolize this thread, but I'm going to for a moment anyway. Since I've been getting a fair amount of PM's about custom gear, etc., I just want to put this somewhere public to save all of us some time. As much as I appreciate the interest in my gear, I'm afraid academia calls and I must answer. The day-to-day effect of this is that I can't take any orders until this school year is over. So, if you have an idealized piece of gear you're absolutely dying to have, feel free to brainstorm it and write it down, and I'll see what we can do with it once I get back. Thanks much gents! You may now return to your regularly scheduled programming....
Punkypink
Just a bit of small needlework... no sewing machine, so its fully hand stitched. My poor thumbs... :| I'm dying it to see if I can get a deeper shade of OD to match the OD stuff I have. Edited August 14, 2008 by Punkypink

Punkypink
sorry the first thing i noticed was the smirnof haha haha! Punkypink: I know how you feel, i also do my sewing the old fashioned way, Nice bit of kit anyway. See you at GZ08 k My fingers hurt lol. My needle bent in 2 places and I needed a pair of pliers to pull it thru. Have just given it a 2nd application of OD dye, will see what shade it is when dried, might give it a 3rd application. Most tellingly, I kinda just died for after posting the pics up and didn't stir for 6 hours.... lying on the living room floor! I envy all those with sewing machines. Roanix
Holster I made, some of the edges of the webbing are fraying and the stiching isn't the best but im only 14 and didn't use a pattern so for me i think i did pretty good. Mr. Jon
Home made helmet cover and resulting tacti-cool combat shorts. (theres some cam cream on it due a grubby fingered doffing at a skirmish, but its not as noticable in the flesh)

Richwatts2002
nearly finnished the holster for my custom grendae launcher! holster made out of fiber glass with multicam cordura resined over the top! looks less dark & less shiny in real life as i coated it with mat varnish! just need to put some thin leather round the top to protect the edges of the fiber glass! did the molle on the back out of thick leather & some spare pouches i had kicking around for the straps! themedicineman
I run dual pistols so I started last year on my own custom rig. I think I am finished with my rig for a while. All parts of the rig are modular ...I have the bottom piece in the picture with the dump pouch and glock holsters and another bottom that is bare for a minimal rig. The top suspenders with my radio button and knife can be replaced with a bare pair of bare suspenders. The custom drop legs snap off so I don't have to have them on the rig either. Of course the belt holds all my mag pouches still. I have a holster that hooks to the back of my rig so I can carry the bazooka vertical on my back, but I need to secure it better. The bazooka holster slides over a strap sewn on the right side of the top section. I want to see how that looks on you... that's what she said. Seriously though, I can kinda see it on someone, but a picture would be nice. I've been goofing around with ideas for a rig similar to that.
Apotheothenai
Richwatts that launcher holster of yours is PURE WIN! I always wanted to run a dual laucher setup with holsters like that, and may on my suit below some day. Here's my humble contribution to the thread. It may not LOOK like it was sewn, but believe me it WAS: All the hard armor plates are attached to the soft under suit with MOLLE webbing, the full body harness was sewn out of old seatbelt straps, and the entire back area is also MOLLE to attach the "jetpack", which is actually a camelback disguised underneath so I don't get dehydrated. The back area of the belt has MOLLE pouches for either M4 or MP5 pouches, whichever I'm skirming with at the time. I sewed snaps onto the knees pads that secure them to the undersuit, so I can either snap them off, or just leave them on the suit and take the whole bottom section off like a pair of pants. The last thing to do is tear up a Glock 34 for a spacy looking pistol. Yes the visor is ANSI rated and yes I have skirmished in it on occasion. It helps to break the monotony of strict milsim every once in a while. [/url Edited November 3, 2008 by Apotheothenai

DesertFoxRomel
Excellent kit everyone, its good to see so many inventive designs. DesertFoxRomel, i was contemplating on making something similar to that not too long ago. i just hope it doesn't put too much strain on that Mollee loop. A bit late, but I don't recomment the wolf hook thing I made, unless you have a heavy counterwieght on the weak side, it always feels like my IBA is being pulled to the side and off balance. The strain on the molle strap is not that much as long as you use two or more. I recommend buying or making a 3 point sling. Much more secure and easier to use. DesertFoxRomel
Right now, I use some el cheapo 37% cotton, 63% Polyester thread in my sewing machine. Every so often, the thread breaks or gums up in the machine, halting production and ruining gear. Any suggestions of what brand and composition thread I should use in a sewing machine, that will also add durability to my gear? I heard somewhere, possibly in the manual, that el cheapo WallyWorld thread isn't going to work without the said problems

L_T
That's kinda sexy. Thank you, It requires a Desi paint job though. The loops work surprisingly well with all my Osprey PALS pouches too.

They usually come in 1-2 lbs cones, but I've seen them in other formats as well. Note that it might gum up your machine if it is a home machine and not an industrial/metal gear machine. It's what I've used, and it works very nicely.
