AGM HK416

Unit 318

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if there's any information about this gun? I am considering getting it now that I held my friend's DBOY's RK02, and I wanted something fullmetal, but I don't want a generic M4. I want this because it looks fairly futuristic (which is a plus for me) and it has lots of upgrade possibilities.

So, first off, the only thing I did hear is that it comes with a spring running too hot for the gearbox (~420FPS) and I would need to switch it out. So I was thinking an M100 spring.

I'm really low on information about this gun, so if anyone can help it would be great.

I've been looking for info on this one for a week or so, but havn't been able to find anything substential. Looks like it's too new to have some reviews yet.

Only the 2 versions with crane stock come with 2 different size barrels. The full stock one should only have the 14,5' from what we can see on the picture of the box.

I've ordered the version with the battery crane stock a couple of days ago from RSOV, but it will take at least a couple of weeks before I have it in my hands.

If you get yours before I get mine, you should post a review or something up so people can know what this gun is about. It'd be helpful.

Got mine two days ago and I'm absolutely in love.

Here's some pics: http://opix.jao.fi/~ao40038/AGM_HK416/

Sorry bout the filenames, theyre in finnish ;)

Oh, and if youre wondering about the vertical handle-pics, I took those cause I had to file off a few millimetres off the top of the handle to fit it to the back. I'd reckon it'll be a hell to fit a M203 there. Though I don't really know if they need the space back there, never had one of those :P

The build is fairly solid, though you can hear a slight clanking between the front set and receiver, if you twist them a little. And they lodge a tiny bit too. But all in all, this is worth the money ;) The charging handle opens the ejection port and lets you adjust the hop-up. It only works tho' if you twist the handle to the left. Shoddy work :l

The trades are a eaglesomethingsomething on the left side that says "COMMANDO" and on the right side AGM-logo and "Marine Env HK416 5.56mm NATO USMC". Theyre not carved, just painted. Same goes for fire selectors markings. They look as cool as any, tho'.

My HK416 is the one with rectractable stock and AN/PEQ. The stock is a 6-slotted LE-stock. The plastic on it is toyish and it lodges a bit. Probably the most annoying thing externally on this piece. Not sure yet if I'm going to install a G&P rectractable (much more solid) or a DBoys foldable stock, which requires sawing off some of the rear tube :P

The fire selector is nicely rigid and sounds a pretty 'click' when turned. The AN/PEQ is pretty toyish too, and has absolutely no moving parts. This is just a battery case. The wire from the gun comes out from the 'nose' of the gun, so there's like 20cm of useless wire. Not sure if it's possible to fit a MOSFET inside the RIS though.. Note here: Almost all the screws on the weapon are phillips headed (also the one that tightens the AN/PEQ to the weaver. crappy solution, i say). Right now I can only think of two more screws that are allen. The motors screw and the one that keeps the muzzle attached.

The front sight is pretty wobbly and so is the rear sight. I wouldn't trust them to aim straight. Get an Aimpoint or Eotech, the iron sights kinda suck, unless you glue the rear sight and do something with the front sight. But they sure do look cool.

My gun has a 300mm barrel, which kinda sucks since I bought an Element 364mm precision barrel with the gun, so I'll have to put on the longer barrel. Looks kinda silly imho :/

I've not yet gotten to the playfields or even to a chrono. I've taken a few test shots from my window and I can tell you that it outranges my M100 M4A1 that has a Madbull precision barrel. The firing sound is pretty booming also :) I've decided to keep the gun as "out-of-the-box" as long as I can. I want to see what this baby can do :)

Ps. Check the attachment file :)

Hmh, won't let me edit my text anymore. I tried out the classic "beercan chrono", which means basically taking shots from a 1 meter distance at an aluminum beer can. I took a few shots at the beer can, they went right through the sides and stayed inside the pizza box behind it. No surprise there.

4 out of 5 bb's passed through the cans bottom, which is pretty thick. They dented the lidside, but didnt pass through there, so it's not totally overkill. :P Going to chrono it this sunday, anyways. So be looking for updates then.

Really, any information would be great, even the smallest thing...

Got the 416 and the 417 now...

All I can say is they are bloody good value and you wont be disappointed.

I have skirmished the 416, which had great range and accuracy even after down grade. Only thing is the crappy trades and the ris has a little give, but nothing a drop of loctite wont sort out ;) , but it really is not a biggy...

For £125, you cannot ever grumble... :P:P

Have you taken it apart yet?

I was going to install a precision barrel but you need to disconnect the wires from the front set first and I was wondering if there's something I should know before breaking anything ;)

And please do tell about the internals if you have taken a look :)

Chronoed the gun today, it shoots 1,42J out-of-the-box. Thats roughly about 350fps, or 107m/s with .25g bb.

Which is a good thing, since in Finland we have a 1,6J limitation for full-auto-capable weapons ;)

you should make a video review and post it on youtube.

Does it have a working bolt catch as on the VFC?

Nope. The charge handle works like in the new Marui Colts, pulling it opens the port. Nothing else. Doesn't stay open or anything fancy like that. Except ofcourse the outer plate, that springs open.

And note here: This isn't perfect in my HK416, it doesn't always "slam" open cause the tiny lever that opens it is too small. You need to twist it just a tiny bit to the left so it works like it's supposed to. Nothing serious on my book, everyone loves the way my gun looks anyway ;)

Sorry, no.

I have an uncanny knack for getting guns in worse shape than before opening them, even with the mechbox left alone, so i've kept this gun in stock condition. Besides I just fieldtested it yesterday, 6h skirmishing with 9,6V 1500mAh NiCD. Performance: Perfect.

The only thing that bothers me are the possible nylon bushings. They'll wear out and probably take out one of the gears too, so I'll report later on that. Right now I'm swamped with work so I'll let it be for now. Have I understood right that JG have two different generation guns in the market at the moment, the other one equipped with metal bushings and black gearbox, and the first gen. with nylon bushings & normal mechbox?

The Firefox(?) 8,4V 1500mAh NiMh provided with it died with the third shot or just didn't have enough kick in it anymore, even tho I charged it with my Ansmann ACS410 the day before. Worked fine until now :P And the provided sling not-so-surprisingly broke too from the metal hook. Snapped right off when I shouldered the gun. The cord itself is pretty good, so I'll just get something on it to make it "work" again :)

Ps. Imho video reviews are mostly total poo and I don't think I can exceed that level :)

There are obviously several options of this AEG (going from what has been said here...I only thought there was JG).

Dboyi

Jing Gong

AGM

Unfortunately, I’m not sure if US players will know which one’s as they’re sold by Eagle they get “rebranded”.

Do Eagle disclose which manufacturer the base units are from?

Anyway, IF they are AGM units I would be wary. Whilst not fundamentally a bad manufacturer, for similar cost you can get Dboyi and JG both of whom produce a far higher quality item.

All the AGM units (M14 and AK) for example have been fitted with mini connectors (these are full stock, large battery AEG’s) and have had reversed polarity (not an issue if using the supplied battery).

General build quality has been “ok” but not great.

I now own JG and Dboyi AEG’s and I can’t say that I’d ever buy any other Chinese make!

The only trouble with these makes is that they can be on the “hot” side for FPS ranges are from 350-390fps!!

However, my JG AK lost fps over time (spring tension) and is a perfect 330fps now (was 350).

The DBoy SPR was 370fps a few skirmishes ago and I’m still working on putting rounds through her to de-tension that spring.

The HK’s are good AEG’s I hear but if you want a more futuristic look why not the SCAR-L that Dboyi now make? Same magazines so you have all that M4/M16/HK416 cross pollination but a bit less of the “M4 Clone” look.

Sorry Quinch, you mean theres a Boyi version of the HK416? I have just seen the JG and AGM versions. If so, would you please put a link? thanks :)

Gestaa: Since you have skirmished it, maybe U have compared it to any of the hundreds of M4 on the fields... and theres something that troubles me... the body of the HK416 y a bit "taller" than the regular M4 body, isnt it? Thanks :)

Thanks Unit318, more info and more headaches

The truth is im unsure about getting this AGM or a Dboys CASV, both full metal, but info about this AGM is... well, insuffcient, and now even more since its said theres two versions and no gearbox inner photos... ^_^U

HAAAAAAAARD decisition :(
