vtb
So, here is the more or less detailed review of recently purchased Escort HK416 GBB. I think it's good to see at this gun compared to Western Arms M4 GBB - that's why i post it here along with CA.net where ppl have to register to read it. Here we go. Externally it's VFC HK416 DX kit (both 10.5" and 14.5" barrels are in package, but internal barrel is only 10.5" long) That's why anyone who've seen VFC HK416 with real markings can imagine what's this toy look like. One external difference - the stock is simple M4 4 position stock (stock tube diameter = Sun Project stock tube diameter) The 'bolt' If you disassemble the gun you'll see the recoil weight (Aluminium) and main spring: There is an SP trigger assembly in the lower reciever, installed via spacers (due wider AEG reciever compared to SP) And we can take away the bolt assembly (fake bolt, nozzle and valve) from the upper reciever The valve is llike SP, but do have changes because of wider upper reciever and overal construction And there is 'shaft' in the upper reciever =)
vtb
The hop-up is changable - thru the hole in the RIS The assembled gun Conclusions after first look: 1. Globally it's SP with mods. 2. Internals are good. 3. The system could be taken out and installed in any M4 from VFC (with appropriate changes of course) The internals Internal barrel is made from brass. Inner diameter is 7mm (!), looks like made from SP inner barrel by machining most of the lenght down to 8mm external diameter. Breech end id still 11mm outer diameter Hop-up rubber looks like AEG. glued in the lower side (actually it's like Escort MP5 and M60) The VFC outer barrel was drilled to accomodate inner barrel + machined to accomodate shaft
vtb
shaft itself the inner barrel stick to shaft via this carved spacer the assembly looks like the following picture: After assembling with external barrel it would be fixed in place by 2 hex screws (the hop-up screw is on the top)
vtb
The "outer" bolt: The "inner" bolt (Gas blowback chamber) assembled with nozzle If we take away the clutch We can take the nozzle itself
vtb
It's differs from SP slightly (the SP nozzle is on the top) Valve is twin of the SP one, but was made to fit into AEG upper reciever and AEG lower reciever To close the post on internals - the whole GBB mech assembly: Everything made from brass, so 110PSI is maximum pressure limit. Valve doesn't leak up to 200 PSI. Internals looks like copy of Escort M60 - except differences in BB's way in and recoil weights positions
vtb
On the field. Finally we were able to get ourselfts to shoot this toy. It was sunny, +6C, no wind. We wanted to compare Escort HK416 to upgraded SP XM177 (steel internals made by daytonagun, hop-up and AEG outer barrel done by ourselfs) Cons 1. Hop-up is very sensetive. 2. Baby is a gas eater. on 110 PSI it eats 2500PSI HPA rig in 1200 shots. SP XM177 with steel internals eats the same rig in 1800 shots on 150PSI Pros 1. Recoil is great 2. Nothing seems to be broken after 3000 shots. Also - we managed to film the video review. It's in Russia with English subtitles. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szzOUttW1pQ Stay tuned. Cheers, vtb

Thanks for the review When you talk about 1200 shots at 110 psi with a 2500 psi bottle : what's the size of the bottle ? Is it a 48cu or a 72cu ?
DWells55
Wow, nice review, thanks. It's nothing I'll ever be able to afford to own and probably nothing I'll ever see in person, so it's cool to get to read about it in this detail. I love the design of GBB airsoft guns - so much closer to the real steel.
Garibaldi
Holy mother of god... Just watched the video... Where can you actually buy this baby ?
vtb
Well... Escort - i don't know really - i've waited 9 month after pre-payment for it to be ready (1 month was promised at the beginning) SP - you can try and buy it from someone at CA.net or you can buy it from Japan or HK and then buy the needable upgrades from guys at CA.net Bottle- the large ballon shown on video - think it 47cc
Catman
The SP guns are great but Escort's been in a bit of trouble lately, special thanks to everyone's bestest mate SniperX Best place to pick up an SP is at http://www.classicairsoft.org/forum/index.php but you'll be lucky to find a 416 going for sale, they were made to order. If you decide to get an SP then make sure it's got the hop-up mod installed and a 3rd o-ring in the valve - ideally you want the vavle to be brazed also edit: vtb beat me to too, nice review btw Edited May 8, 2008 by Catman
Inq Eisenhorn
OH MY GOD!!!!! I just watched the youtube video....if the WA GBB is anything like the Escort I want one!!! OH MY GOD! That would absolutley rule at the airsoft site...the sound, the recoil...I think I just had an accident!!!!
Gigueand
Those are very cool guns. I'm sure it'll be a few years before GBB rifles with remote lines and AEG style hop-ups that accept standard AEG magazines hit the market in an affordable way. I'll be waiting eagerly until then. It has become increasingly clear, however, that gas is "back in."
Revenge Seeker
All these gas rifles... must get one... must...
TDS
OH MY GOD! That would absolutley rule at the airsoft site...the sound, the recoil...I think I just had an accident!!!! Escort: fun to shoot, good luck hitting anything =P
vtb
Escort: fun to shoot, good luck hitting anything =P The groupings and range are on par with AEG with equal power.
TDS
The groupings and range are on par with AEG with equal power. Power =/= range =/= accuracy
vtb
Power =/= range =/= accuracy True. Agree. You right. Period. But I should say that if you personally don't like SniperX - it's not the reason to make negative comments about Escort guns. This is review of a gun - not about the person who makes bad Customer Care and with whom you made flame wars a long ago (both here and on CA.net)
Inq Eisenhorn
@vtb If someone had the opportunity to buy one of these Escort HK416s, would you recommend it? In the light of some of the rifles coming out, things like Daytonaguns conversions, Inokatsu and WA...does the Escort stand up to the competition. Also, would you recommend changing the internals for steel internals, or is the brass good enough? Thanks.
AustinWolv
daytonagun's stuff is copy of Escort internals. Don't expect too much performance difference there, although the machining and some minor design issues might be cleaned up some. Since you are in the UK, you don't need a lot of power, and thus input pressure, so the brass internals will hold up fine. The WA (and Inokatsu which is same thing with metal receiver) is cool and all. A nice release. But not skirmish-suitable for the majority of users out there, especially at the mag loadout cost.....unless you truly play with people who play milsim with lo-cap mags or you upgrade the rifle to run as DMR. Inq Eisenhorn
Ok, that sounds fair enough...a guy has offered to sell me his Escort HK416, and it looks great. The only doubt that I had, and its not really a doubt, is that if Daytonagun is basically making a copy of the Escort system, then I could just ask him to buy a VFC or SRC HK416 and be done with it.... The HK416 in vtbs video sounds sooo much better than the SP, and I won't compare the report with AEGs, cause you'll laugh at my understatement.....
