Sledge
Ah, you poor lost soul. Load emulators onto your PC now, and revel in the glory that was, is and ever shall be the Spectrum. Now, I'll pass round the collection plate whilst reading from the Gospel According to St. Clive...

oikoik
c64. *beep* ace. beat the ###### out of the speccy anyday. i actually had a plus/4 in my early years... snigger.. but c64 was cool. i loved elite, last ninja, and red storm rising on mine... and amiga vs atari wars. amiga beat it hands down. i still have mine.. [a 500 and a a1200/040/t/scsi in a tower, full upgraded] used to run a mac quadra 940 on it faster than the real thing..
Sledge
And what about all the copying of games that went on? Lend a mate your copy of Renegade in return for his Operation Wolf, then when you swap back, thanks to the magic of audio tape, you both have copies of each others games. Brilliant. Not that I copied anything, you understand. Just I've heard that other people did. Bad people, who broke the law. Ahem. You ain't seen me, right?
oikoik
the demo scene - it hit big with the c64s - i used to be in contact with a few in eastern europe, when they were still behind the iron curtain. some of the most incredible stuff came out of these types of people and their groups. i still recall a full screen video clip that ran for 3 mins - quite cool it was a front242 vid if anyone remembers the scene ... speccy was ok - i recall a great game where you could bazooka a granny and she'd shoot right across the screen - it was probably deathwish or something.. hah, operation wolf.. on the c64. .hehe good fun! anyone else recall sat for 5 mins with a tape head alignment progrm running and a little screwdriver in your hand twiddling on the tape deck, so those 4 meandering lines became straight..? or action replay! carts for those cheats or copying.. i still have my cheetah 125+ joystick here... i also had this ludicrous light pen thing.. my arm used to ache after 5 mins of attempting to draw on the tv screen..
