Glad to see you got yours done in the end mate.

Ours turned out great! Got adjusters on the outside, going to get height adjusters on the inside at some point too. Then get a top raided like yours. Then get woodland sets done :P

Actually, yours look even better than mine. Looking at my pics, my pads look a little low, but every time I took a knee they were in the perfect position (hard cap protecting my knee cap). I could still do with some height adjusters on the inside of the pants. I can probably do that myself. The tailor also added the elastic straps that go behind the knee inside the pants and are adjustable and covered with some fabric so they don't rub my legs. They work great at keeping the pads in the right place.

I had two DCU pants sets modified like this, and the second set need to be redone as she botched it and refused to redo them. <_<

BTW, regarding the top, I didn't actually get mine modified. I simply bought the Tru-Spec BDU top in DCU. They come in the ACU tailoring which is the what came from the Raid style.

@ uscm:

Ahh, LC! went there in 07, back when I was Stateside, awesome game!

Did you have the pants changed yourself? Or ius that "Her" some specialist in making Crye-Type pants?

LC is always fun.

I got my pants modified by a tailor in Hong Kong while I was briefly back there in March. My buddy recommended the tailor since she had done some work for his gf and seemed open to do unconventional jobs. I gave her a set of my Gen 1 Crye pants to pull templates off and a spare set of crye combat pads. From there I simply instructed her that the important measurements were to ensure that the distance from waist to the top of the pads had to be the same as on the crye ones. and to copy the overall shape of the pocket. She even added loop velcro to the inside of the pocket like on the Crye ones to ensure the pads would stay in place. The only thing she messed up was the left to right position of the pad pockets. She made the pads more vertical to the ground rather than simply following the direction of the leg which makes them appear turned outwards more. The set I'm wearing in the pic is passable, but the second set were much more dramatic. So I need to get those ones looked at and fixed.

The tailor also offered to install side zips along the length of the leg like on the Crye one for an additional fee, but I was nervous that there wouldn't be enough material for her to work with. In the end, it might have been a good idea since I knew the main reason why she didn't want to fix the pocket position was because ... in order to install the pockets she had to split the entire pants open along the sides at the seam, install the pad pockets, and then close up the side seams. Not an easy job (certainly not one I'd want to undertake and I'm pretty good at the sewing machine (I did well in home economics :) ).

Oh right il have a look for that tru spec. Ive seen bulle but its not quite right imo.

Our tailor had to open up our pants along the leg and take the cargo pockets off. We got 4 sets done and they came to about £85 each, which was more then i had hoped but definately worth every penny. As you ccan see on my right leg i didnt get the cargo pocket put back on, i didnt think it was worth it as there is always a holster there. Going to try for some gen 3 pads (probably cost more then the pants).

Worth mentioning, TRU Combat Shirts are available in DCU/3 color desert camo:

The above seems to be the only place that sells it. I asked my teammate where he got his from a couple weeks back and he pointed me in their direction. Got a couple shirts on their way to me now. The TRU Combat Shirts are the Gen 2 style, which means they don't have the failings of the Gen 1 shirts (Gen 1 = sleeves too short and sleeve pockets were awkwardly top access instead of side access).

And if you don't have one, I strongly recommend the Spec-Ops Brand Recon Wrap in Desert Camo. I frequently use one over the head in "Sahara Mode" as well as one as a neck gaitor.

BIG +1

I wear a coyote one in "Sahara" during the summer. Collects the sweat off my brow and takes the sting out of head shots.

Finally secured that permission.

The dessie camo issued to norwegian naval forces on the left, regular army and airforce on the right...personally I'm in love with the colors and pattern of the naval version...
