Frakk2k
This was the set I was thinking about. I realize you might have problems getting the frequencies that the motorola and cobras send on.. (Also not to mention they might violate local radiohandset rules). http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15187 They are cheap anyways (60$ with shipping).
RC-1138
Cobras are ok, but they loose what clarity they have over distance. This is true. Occasionally I have issues in dense forests on big ops. But then even the SINCGARS we use seem to have issues once you get over a mile... pos...
Billy Bob the Sniper
placed a bid on ebay for a Comtac II head set, and didn't think i would win but i was the only bidder at 199. So i am a happy man, should be here soon.

Any idea where I could get the handsets from though? James: Thanks for the offer fella, prob take you up on that if I can get hold of the handsets.
galactica
I can do the re-wireing on those CharlieQB. Question: Does anyone know a source (or a brand name) for the connector used on motorola radios such as GP300s or XTN446's? It's a 4 pole right angled connector. i'm sure talkingheadsets.co.uk would sell you a motorola tail if you want, and tell you the pinout.
Semtex
Charlie, we must be smoking the the same stuff. I too am going to get Nev to rewire one of those H-250 handsets for my moto :-) Ebay seems to be the best place to get one. Darthwhite, try http://www.nev-comms.com/ you can get a curly lead with a specific radio connector for £5.50. Bottom of the Bowman page.

Trip suggested the idea for the command team's, FTC's & DFTC's second radio channel. I think were sold on it. Get us a final price on the handsets with Moto or Kenwood leads and I'm sure we'll put an order in for some if there not silly prices. Remember......puff, puff, pass brother. Puff, puff.... BoE.Solidius
Nice thread! Just chiming in if anyone has any Commo gear for ASIP (SINCGARS) or an MBITR they would like to sell to me that would be cool. Really are in desperate need of some. S4 has nothing here. Semtex
The pic Charlie posted was for a H-250/U handset. There is a great thread on the wannabe forum on converting these handsets to work with PMR radios. One thing you have to do is replace the mic as the one in the handset will not work. This is the thread for all those who are members already --> http://wannabe.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=9988 Charlie, if you have trouble getting a H-250/U, they are hard to find for a decent price you could look at a Clansman handset, loads on ebay. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/items/?_nkw=clansma...n&_osacat=
Semtex
My current setup, A Motorola GP340, with either a DevGru throat mic or a Bowman headset.
Semtex
Darthwhite, http://www.nev-comms.com/ be the man for all your comms needs although his web site isn't great. Give him a call, really nice fella and very very helpful.
Roecar
MY google skillz have failed me, where in the intraweb are these two pin PTTs (for an ICOM) for Peltor COmtac IIs?
pforcerecon
Does anyone know where I can get a decently long antenna for a Motorola Saber radio? I've tried ebay but have had no luck. I'm going to get the whip MBITR style antenna that Fatal got for his saber, but was also looking for something for my other one. Something at least 10 inches or longer if they're out there. Kalmar
Ok guys looking for a bit of advice here as I'm quite uneducated when it comes to comm setups. I managed to land myself a set of Comtac II's with a single NATO downlead, now I'm looking for a PTT wired to connect this headset to something like a Garmin rino or Motorola Talkabout if that's possible. Can someone give me a brief explanation of the terminology I'd use to catergorize such a thing or where I might find one? Particularly interested in the Nexus series PTT's but can't find them anywere :/
billy252
in the states you could try SWAT headsets or TCI? If it helps I always had a little more luck searching for 'U94' than for 'nexus' ptt. I think TP120 was the jack that went into the U94 if my memory serves
Kalmar
Thanks, I found the U94 on TCI. It is only available with "Mil U-329" and "Impulse 10 pin" connections however, are there adapters I can use to connect to a small PRS/GMRS radio?
pforcerecon
If I remember correctly there's a PTT, kinda pricey for about $245, that gives you a wider option to use with various radios such as the Icom, Motorola Saber, Motorola HT100, etc etc, on the TCI website. But highly undoubtful you'll find one for a smaller radio such as the Talkabout or Garmin. If you want that then your best luck would be the replica comtacs.
billy252
I think for those radios you're best having one produced by a local radio store. There are a couple of places over here (talking headsets is one http://www.talkingheadsets.co.uk/) that'll hook you up with a U94 rigged to your radio. Those sort of shops will usually be able to get the jack for your radio and rig it to ptt. I'm afraid I don't know of any in the USA

pforcerecon
Basically for this particular PTT, all you would need is the PTT, and then whichever radio is readily available that is listed under the options for which radio to connect it to. The Icom F4s is a readily available radio that can also be easily programmed, which I believe has a 2 pin connection, and the particular PTT I mentioned has an option for either the 2 or 3 pinned Icom radios. The Icoms can be bought on ebay for good prices. There's another place that has the PTT for lesser. Give me a second and I'll find it for you. Edit: Grey Group has the PTT's for an Icom for $
Roecar
I was just looking on grey Group's website and I couldn't find the ICOM PTTs. Just to be sure its greygrouptraining.biz?
pforcerecon
I'll double check. BinaryPunisher had mentioned to me that they had them since I was looking at getting rid of my Sabers to switch over to Icoms to use my Peltor headset as well. Edit: Ok it might either be this: http://www.greygrouptraining.biz/MSA_Dual_...le_p/154009.htm Or this: http://www.greygrouptraining.biz/MSA_PRC_P..._p/10054233.htm
