Could you guys post pics of your guns a year or whatever after you painted them? Would be a good way to see how different paints and painting methods wear off and could help people to choose their desired paints.

Ill try to get some nice pics of my M14 this week; finished it two weeks ago and still havent asked a friend for a camera....

About 8 month to a years worth. Tamiya spray paint is what you see with Krylon beneath it and Humbrol enamel below that. The stock is a recent additon, a few months and not much use:

After about 6 months of use. Note that the silver bit showing through on the magwell is the result of sanding down a large dent that I later painted over. Other than that it's all wear. It's all Krylon Camouflage paint.

A'rite... Krylon doesnt look bad, but its half as old as the Tamiya painted gun though.

Tommy: did you use Tamiya oil based paints or the ones intended for direct airbrush use? Did you varnish the gun after the Tamiya layers were on?

Barsrule: you would say Krylon hols on well?

Has anyone used Krylon in the non-spraycan version?

Thanks!

Keep posting old paintjobs please; I want to find something that keeps me from spending 200$ on Duracoat paints.

Krylon is very durable, however with the frequent use most airsoft guns see you will inevitably beat up the paint. You will eventually get scratches and dings in the paint, but unless you try to attack the gun on purpose, the finish will last a long time. It wont look perfect, but the color will still be there.

Also I would stick with the spray can krylon paint as painting with a brush usually ends up in a big sticky mess with a very uneven finish.

For the pattern you can see, I used Tamiya spray paints and no varnish.

Thing is, my philosophy on this is, is that I try to replicate what a soldier would do. Soldiers don't give a monkeys about it being neat and tidy, a work of art etc they want the gun hidden, not a wall hanger.

I know, its just that I want to offer gun painting at a friends shop and I want to research different paints for different purposes. For example my M4 SIR:

First I painted it in two sand tones and scratched the paint of for a more used and *fruitcage*ed up look; but now I painted it body and rails in tan and stock and forearm in OD and I want the paint to look flawless and nice, because i want it to look like the pieces were either produced in those colours or were Duracoated (more posh PMC look).

Some people will want their guns to have a used look and some will want them to look new forever; so Ill be using Tamiya, Duracoat, Krylon,...

BARsrule2: I meant airbrush, you know: the airguns to spray paint used in modelling, car tuning, ...

The only problem with airbrush finishes is that they are very, very thin. More so than the finishes produced by spray cans. So if you use an airbrush, you will probably want to varnish/clear coat it afterwards to protect it. This is just airbrush painting in general (I'm sure you probably know all this), I have never used Krylon paints through an airbrush.

ODA inspired paintwork. I'll most likely be adding more colors, unless I want this to stick out like a roman candle for a crazy personality's sake.

Not "solidly" sprayed on there, so there's a few black shades present.

Krylon's Satin Mimosa.
