Hi guys, I'm thinking of getting into WW2 'softing. So, I started doing some brainstorming, and putting together a preliminary "shopping list" of things I might need.

I'm thinking of doing a mid-to-lateish war Heer impression Stg44 gunner.

So, here's the list:

There's a few exceptions to realism and a couple of things missing: The Y-straps are post-war Austrian (compatible, but different; suitable only for airsoft), the belt is a BW belt (buckle could be swapped out), and I'm missing suitable gaiters as I'll be using lace-up boots.

The only other things I'd like are an A-frame, and a zelt + accessories (gas mask can, mess kit, canteens), but those can be sorted after I get the bulk of the gear.

Insignia are also missing, but those can also be assembled later, and I must confess I need to do a lot more research on that if I were to go down that route.

So, does this look feasible or correct for a Western theatre impression? If not, what should be changed/added if things are missing?

Is that a screenshot of your 'shopping basket' at Zib Militaria? It may be worth your while checking out the for sale ads here, or on some of the WW2 reenactors or airsoft websites. You may pick up a bargain or two.

If I were you, I think I'd wait with the parka and helmet cover, and get some of the other kit you need instead (water bottle, gaiters and bread bag at least), but it's your decision.

Have you got the Stg44 yet?

Like I said, it's a preliminary shopping list. I only picked Zib as it happened to have nearly everything I was after in stock, or at least available at a later date. Price-wise, they're considerably better than other specialised re-enactor shops here, but I'm willing to shop around.

I think I can see why I'd hold off with the smock and cover, but to be honest, I'd likely just drop the dollar on everything at once, including the bits that are missing.

No Stg at the moment, as this is still in the proof-of-concept stage. Once I get an idea of what I want (and if it's accurate and believable), I'll get the Stg first, mod some mags into midcaps, fix it up, and then collect kit.
