Richard Y
what was the FPS limit there ? Operation Pine Plains in Fort Drum, NY
Isamu
You really should go in and give it a service if you think somethings not quite right.. Should do, but I will wait until I get some upgrades and ask an airsoftsmith to install them and have a look at the same time. Speaking about upgrades, Im planning on installing these: SCS nub Richards 330/350fps spring Metal bushings Nothing fancy since this monster killed my budget for some generations but I just want some added reliability... any advice is welcome
dynamic_e
what was the FPS limit there ? Operation Pine Plains in Fort Drum, NY I think it was 350 with .25s
AnakChan
Isamu, Just my 2 yen worth, if it's reliability you're looking for, don't change anything.
Gunfighters808
Well, this is weird... After shooting with the socom, I hear like a "ping" into de buffer tube, as something hit something and was vibrating... nothing serious, but somewhat annoying, hope its nothing serious it is most likely the recoil weight return spring. if it pops of the little stopper on both the weight and the back cover of the stock tube then it's just rattling around in there causing the spring to vibrate. then you get that ping sound when you shoot. Isamu
Just my 2 yen worth, if it's reliability you're looking for, don't change anything. Thanks, but Im planning on upgrading the spring and Im currently using 9.6v batteries, maybe its not necessary, but nylon bushings... well, they dont give me much peace of mind... it is most likely the recoil weight return spring. if it pops of the little stopper on both the weight and the back cover of the stock tube then it's just rattling around in there causing the spring to vibrate. then you get that ping sound when you shoot. Thanks, I will look into it again, maybe the spring isnt properly seated on the end cap as when I opened it before, it was well seated on the recoil weigth BTW, Richard, how is the new recoil weigth going?
Richard Y
new recoil weights a pain in my butt, basically becuase im out sourceing its being able to get time on the machine, they dont want to stop a 110000 K cnc machine to make 1 prototype part so im working with one of there designers to make sure the deisgn is sound before we get time on the machine. Its the same any where its finding the right equipment and a company willing to stop making something to make my relatively small run of 50. They wont turn it down as its still a decent amount of cash for them its just im low in the que.. Its also one thing to design something but another to design something to fit on a machine, tapers for instance increase cost etc etc Which sucks as half my sopmods there.. Making it a ball ache to test peoples batterys..
Isamu
Sorry to hear that Richard, we will just have patience until they are machined and tested. If they really increase the recoil they will be a success

Isamu
Dont know why they insist on that new battery system, its flawed and expensive, its much easier and gives better performance to use a Lipo or old nimh batteries on the stock... but hey, TM only wants moar money while other brands try to get a piece of the cake trying to solve the issues I will stick to the socom, thanks
The Chef
I'm with Isamu on this one. My LiPo installed SOCOM has been in the field now a few times with astounding results. And the batteries 7.4v 2200mah, for two of them cost about the same as one SOPMOD special battery. Doesn't make any sense to me. My advice to everyone would be to either sort out their rifles to front wiring, or to ditch the special connector in the SOPMOD stock and wire it to Deans for LiPo installation. The performance on mine is superb. ROF is much better than on a 9.6v mini NiMh (but not insane) and one battery has easily lasted a full days skirmishing. I am feeling the love for this gun. So much so, I even put down my VSR for most of the day. And for those who know me, this is like separating co-joined twins. I'm just waiting on my dude to get my MOSFET sorted and I'm away. Oh, blatant plug here. If any UK based persons require a 3 Round Burst 'Fet let me know and I'll see if he can add extra to his run.
elanaiba
I'm running a lipo on a socom myself, but still if there's a new accessory for the gun, its got to be mentioned. Where do you fit a 7.4v 2000 ? In the regular Socom forearm?
The Chef
Yeah, it's smaller than a 9.6v Mini Battery, so is just a direct replacement. but still if there's a new accessory for the gun, its got to be mentioned. Oh, fully agree. Wasn't having a go. I just think for a cost/effectiveness package, running a LiPo seems to be much better than the standard SOPMOD special battery arrangement. elanaiba
On a sidenote, where could I get body parts for the Sopmod? I'm running a modded Socom But its time I fix the Sopmod. Presumable I would need a lower receiver, an stock tube and a stock tube ring. Any ideas on where I could order those?
Isamu
I think only Marui produce those, maybe you can use a GBBR stock tube ring, but its possible it would need some modifications to make it fit. Personally, I wouldnt buy anything until im 100% sure it fits. Other option is asking an user from japan to buy it and source it to you
AnakChan
Seems no one is going back to older posts in the forum as some of the questions here have already been answered. Here's how to put the Lipo in the front :- http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=158786&view=findpost&p=2308380 Some milling to get Extreme Fire's Mosfet in :- http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=158786&view=findpost&p=2298963 As for what you could add/change to your Sopmod, (see bottom M4 for Sopmod, upper is my WA based GBB). The Sopmod has a Magpul PTS ACS, 3rd party ASAP for TM's Sopmod specifically, the rest are normal AEG stuff :- As with Isamu, better ask first what you want to fit before buying it. Richard Y
On the subject of batteries connections ... http://www.mojji.com...fax/fax4254.htm tHATS AWESOME.. email sent to sanken about a trade account wooohoooo do you think its simply new cooper bars to fit in there? i thought all the tm stuff was copper coated in silver? i guess i was wrong! lol
Richard Y
so was driving home from a bowling match and had an idea for a new connector for the rear of the sopmod.. You just poke the wires in the hole then screw a m2 counter sunk screw tight which holds the wires in place agasint the copper The connectors also wide enough to push agasin the inside of the stock thus removing any stock wobble. I figure its about surface area the flatter and wider the area the more chance for it to be a good connection for the battery. Combined with the other ones from diamond ring or if i make my own ones that should vamp up the conection somewhat... i do like the design it makes for a effortless stock adjust while having the battery in the rear. id rather keep it if i had the choice. doktoroff
I'm thinking about getting the sopmod, but hesitating between normal and CQB version. CQB has a foregrip and better stock, but does shorter barrel affect performance?
Number5
Does shorter barrel affect performance.... Well, technically speaking, yes. In a scientific test an AEG with a longer barrel and the same internals as a shorter barreled AEG should shoot a higher FPS and be more accurate(not alot but some), but I doubt it will make alot of difference in real terms. All you have to think about is; A) What look you like Where you play most C) How you play (prefer sniping/prefer close up and personal) In the end, with a TB barrel and good hop rubber and nub, a CQB will perform just as well as a regular SOPMOD/SOCOM. If I ever get the cash I'll be picking up a CQB just for the look! and I wont expect it to perform much if any less well than my SOCOM! To Richard; Still loving all your ideas for the SOPMOD! if you eliminate the stock wobble and can get a connection close to a Deans connector with that new contact design I will have to pick me up a SOPMOD (maybe wait for the new SPR's! Dont care what others think I love the look of them! ) Edited June 3, 2010 by Number5
Isamu
In theory, the best inner barrel length is 363mm, from there its hard to improve the AEGs performance, so being 300mm the CQB length, the performance will be a bit lower, but I doubt such difference is really notable while playing and out of "controlled review enviroments", so its more important to look what you like most, CQB or carbine length, I would have loved a CQB socom carbine, but seems like TM is not going to make it happen anytime soon Richard-Y: I demand a two pice (CQB/Carbine) lenght outer barrel , as thin as regular AEGs outer barrels. the stock one makes problematic installing some batteries

It's the standard TM Socom M4 aeg fitted with a real KAC RAS: <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v336/Schelvis/Others/CIMG0001-2.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /> Hey dude, where did you put the battery? With a deans or tamiya connector it would not work. So you don't have any room to spare. elanaiba
IIRC its a banana connector? I've bought the Kong Power battery and it fits ok in my Socom Gear Daniel Defense RIS II, with Deans attached. Seems to fit in KAC RIS too, haven't played in that configuration yet.
