Quilimox
Alright lads, seems yahoo is becoming an online international version of big brother Basically if you belong to ANY Yahoo Groups - be aware that Yahoo is now using "Web Beacons" to track every Yahoo Group user. It's similar to cookies, but allows Yahoo to record every website and every group you visit, even when you're not connected to Yahoo. Here's how to turn it off: 1. Look at their updated privacy statement at http://info.yahoo.com/privacy/us/yahoo/details.html About half-way down the page, in the section on Cookies, you will see an underlined link that says, "web beacons". Click on that link. 2. On the page that opens, look in the left side boxes for the Opt Out box. Click on the link that says, "opt-out of interest-matched advertising" . 3. On the page that opens, click on the Opt Out button. Note that Yahoo's invasion of your privacy, and your ability to opt-out of it, is not user-specific. It is MACHINE specific. That means you will have to opt-out on every computer and browser you use. Spread the word, let your mates know. You might also choose to let Yahoo know your reaction to this. Related article: *Yahoo Web Beacons Igniting Controversy* Yahoo's current privacy policy is causing consternation among some users who object to their use of so-called 'web beacons'. Known in most circles as web bugs, these invisible images are embedded in websites and email and used to track your surfing - and even tell whether you've opened a particular email. Quilimox
Np's guys. i'm trying to find out what other sites use web beacons and i will post any findings on how to turn them off on here. anyways it seems facebook tried to a long time ago http://blog.facebook.com/blog.php?post=7584397130 but it was not really appriciated by the people of facebook so i think they got rid of it completely, after making it an opt in rather than yahoo's opt out feature. if yahoo goes down that line aswell i shall let you all know. Cheers Quil

Quilimox
Apperantly Google Checkout allows stores to track conversions from advertising by adding a web beacon to the Google Checkout order confirmation page. Basically the only solution they give if you dont wanna be tracked is to clear your cookies after you have used google checkout. http://checkout.google.com/support/bin/ans...py?answer=43192 Hope this helps anyone Quil
