renegadecow
It won't be winning in a beauty pageant, that's for sure. But if it shoots anywhere near like the 8mm versions you're in for some fun. Wish they'd make a Vaquero though.
GlockworkOrange
Attempted to give a colour case hardened look to the trigger of my Model 19. Not sure if it really worked, but it's better than plain black! Doesn't look great in the photos, it's darker in person.  Edited May 11, 2014 by GlockworkOrange
GlockworkOrange
And did the hammer too:Â Â Â Probably should have cleaned the gun a bit, looks filthy!
jv83
How did you do it? Looks real good
GlockworkOrange
How did you do it? Looks real good  Thanks, I polished the parts up then splashed Birchwood Casey Perma Blue in it as randomly as I could. A thin coat gives it a multicolored effect, and a more concentrated application gave it dark patches. Edited May 12, 2014 by GlockworkOrange
jv83
Very cool. Did not know it would work with pot metal. Must get some and have a try. Thanks ClockworkO
GlockworkOrange
Yeah chemical metal finishes react strangely with airsoft metals, and the end result differs wildly. Birchwood Casey Aluminium Black turns most airsoft alloys anything from grey to brown, and Perma Blue seem to depend on how much you polish the metal before hand. Applying it to a dull metal, it just goes grey, but if polished it can come out a nice multicolour oily look - not quite blue, but you won't get that if it's not steel. Might try some Super Blue, which is supposedly a lot more concentrated.
garry
Try this.. Â https://www.ballistolstore.co.uk/weapon-care?product_id=134 Â Comes out looking pretty much like blued steel on the cast zinc alloy these guns use. Don't expect it to wear like blued steel though, as it's not capable of biting into the alloy surface properly. Easy to touch up if it marks though..
jv83
Cool. Think I'm gonna try and get my mitts on some different products and try them on different kinds of metal materials. It can be so hard to predict how pot metals are going to react to different chemicals!
renegadecow
Pretty neat finishes you got there. How does it hold against wear as bare zinc will turn grey pretty quick with some even growing a layer of crud off off it.
garry
As long as you coat it with oil, the finish will stay looking good for a long time. The issue is wear. It will wear away with use much more quickly than if you are bluing steel.
renegadecow
Should be done with this soon, maybe by next week.

Squad 701
Mateba grip or Meteba bottle opener, who knows with the Workd Cup on any things possible
renegadecow
Definitely not a bottle opener. Spent the day shaping it, now to checker.

renegadecow
It's replaced the laminate one I made earlier, but I'm still unable to ship it out due to gun-phobic couriers.
Imperator
Renegade, how did you checkered it?Any special tools/process?
renegadecow
Just the standard hand checkering set and a lot of time/patience/effort. Although looking back I should have bought the 6-piece set. Â edit: It might not look much with the stain on, but I cut my diamonds deep. Taken before using the fine cutter to sharpen the points. aznriptide859
Wow, how do you do that by hand? Just heat-stamping the wood? I've seen checkered files used for checkering 1911's, but I'm sure that's not how you use it.
