DPM & MTP kit thread

Recommended Posts

Different name from the original, but since that one has gone wild and rampant past the 100 page mark, consider this the Mk.II <img src="http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

To get started off, I unpacked my small pack of my kit for the range today and here's my raingear.

Yep, that's right, Canucks wearing DPM at work...don't get me wrong, I like CADPAT too, but when they won't issue me proper raingear (I have feckin' green garbage bags issued) I go for the next best thing <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> So I have myself a Goretex jacket and trousers that I wear under my regular combats in the field. Perfect for when it's nippy out or pissing down rain!

While we're on the subject of posting loads of random kit draped all over your bed:

Snap lerch. Have been orienteering/raft building and the like all day (on RAF time and money of course) hence the current state of my bedspace. Also:

Quite the opposite of gucci, however for £20 I can guarantee you won't find a harder wearing or warmer jacket than one of them big buggers.

Eh, seriously don't knock silver shadows man. Those have served me faithfully since day 02 at Halton, seen more PEd lessons than I'd think to count and going strong. In all honestly, as long as you get a good fitting pair and lace 'em up well they're quite comfortable and very light weight, I've bought trainers that cost a hell of a lot more than a pair of silver shadows would in a shop and they've not been anywhere near as good. I'd wear them more but you instantly suffer -50 street cred points whenever you're seen in public with 'em on unfortunately.

Which was 5 minutes ago by the sound of it.

Lerch: You wear the Gtex under the normal jacket? That's bold :D Is it the newer style jacket or the older one? The newer is a better colour match and has a rank tab on the front.

Don't go getting all jealous just because you've got no hair left old timer. Annoyed at the cold giving you jip in that dodgy knee of yours? Don't worry, the nurse will be around with your meds soon no doubt, then everything will be fine. But yeah, it was actually, precisely 5 minutes ago, amazingly quick they give out these 3 bladed propellers now-a-days.

*snip*

Oh look, someone's done something ever so highly original and posted up a picture with some big brightly coloured letters on because that's apparently 'internet cool' and means you 'win'. Have a coconut lad, bloody well done. Seriously, what do you know about me?

I've been wearing it underneath so far, no problems yet and the BSM hasn't ripped me a new one so I'm G2G ;)

And it's the old one that has no pockets, just the reach-through zipper. Most of the time when I'm in the field I've got atleast my tacvest on, so any pockets would be wasted anyway.

I'll keep wearing it until I can get my new raingear from the QM...

CKinnerley: yes, verbally assaulting them will definitely help the situation....

Will everyone kindly shut the flying *fruitcage* up and leave it?

Do you not think that's being just the tiniest bit hypocritical?

- The DPM goretex stuff, how is it in regards to durability?

It's pretty damn tough, I've worn the suit (jacket and trousers) for days on exercise in fairly rough woodland leopard crawling and monkey running without problems. It's basic, not terribly breathable and only one layer (literally just the g-tex material, no comfy lining or anything) but then again it's designed to go over CS95, will absolutely never let a drop of water through and dead easy to clean when you get it muddy.

While it is fairly tough and it is waterproof, the material is not good compared to the likes of the German waterproofs. It is noisy even when worn underneath a smock and unless the weather was really genuinely terrible, I'd not bother wearing it.

To be honest 90% of the time in the field you never catch me wearing Goretex!!! i prefer to make sure i wash my kit in a good waterproofing stuff and then when soaked or back at the FOB, i will simply sleep in me dry kit or just change if i am that bad. Goretex i find just annoying and it does make me sweat alot more. The only time i do wear goretex is around camp/barracks.

I've looked at/considered the combat kit stuff many many times, never actually taken the plunge though; always looks solid enough and quite well designed but a bit over-priced. What do you think about their stuff? Pouches in particular, I quite fancy getting a plain OD vest and then using pouches with different camo patterns on them depending on which camo I'm wearing at the time.

I think that lot cost me a ton so not to bad and its to my taste. i have had it a year now and used for work heavly and is holding up well. As that picture was taken when i first got it. And CK when will you need a Tac Vest surely you would be better armed with a Brew and nice comfy seat and a sign saying closed on your armoury :whistling: it seems to SOP in most of them.

Well, you know if I worked in an armoury that might apply, but sadly despite trying my very hardest to get in to one I'm stuck somewhere else for now; somewhere we actually have work on all the time and never ever get away early on a Friday (unlike the entire rest of the air force). Not what I signed up to the RAF for I tell you, too many :rules: not enough

I blame the AFCO, lying b******s.
