  1. 1. Which manufacturer makes the gun, whatever it is, that YOU consider to be your primary weapon?

Indeed 45,551 registered members, 356 replies, that's not yet 1% of Arnies users, let alone airsofters. But as a snap poll it gives a quick glimpse at the likely replies of a larger poll, remembering of course that there are manufacturers missing, such as VFC who have had several users post already that they would of voted for that if able.

Until someone decides to create a webpoll-site that is promoted worldwide, guarenteed to be one person one vote etc etc, snapshots of partial data are all we'll get. Remembering of course that once Japan start voting in anything TM will skyrocket, lol.

That's because TM rule.

You also have to take into account the geographical distribution of players, and how it will affect the results, as you said. Perhaps because of the availability of clones now, we will see our results towards leading brands like TM, CA, VFC, Tanaka etc diminished, whereas somewhere like Japan might be the opposite.

Um, for data to tell you anything you have to draw a conclusion, either that or alot have things have changed since I last worked as an Analyst :P

For me it certainly says that of those who have their manufacturer on that list, TM have the largest individual market share, but more people prefer something else to TM, putting them in a relatively weak position. I thought it was worth mentioning that, as the only posts making any conclusions so far have soley been on their market share.

Unfortunately I can't see their Market Share changing for the better in the future, unless they change their decision that they're not interested in the market outside of Japan, whereas manufacturers that are doing everything they can to be helpfull to foreign markets will only continue to see their individual shares grow.

Just my opinion of course.

The main info I was trying to find out was less of who people where buying and more of WHAT people are buying. By that I mean are they sticking to their original, "beginner" type gun or moving onto bigger and more complex machines. It seems that most people stick with their originals (by both comments and the types of companies that sell the most, those being guns considered good "beginner" guns, such as TM, JG, and CA). And while I'm sure they tweak them over time, it seems that the trend is everyone's "gold standard" is either their first gun or something very close to it. Now I know that isn't absolute (when is anything?) I myself don't use a gun even REMOTELY close to my original or a beginner gun (Star M4A1) but there is a noticeable trend and that's how I see the data so far.

Similarly one can see despite all the complaining, many of the more popular manufacturers seem to be the very companies we hear endless moans about (CA for example). I figured I'd do this poll just to confirm a few suspitions I had and perhaps learn a thing or two about the airsoft world at large. I'm thinking my next poll will be a model poll with every gun model made thus far... that's gona take awhile to compile though....

At first i was blown away by the number of people who use VFC (including myself). but then i started to think, VFC owners are usually pretty proud of their guns. i know i am. when people see my 416 and they ask who makes it, i take pride in saying "VFC". where as the guys running around with JGs and Echo1s probably arent as excited to say their gun is a E1.

so i think thats the reason why the votes for TM and CA are much higher than Dboys and CYMA.

*after reading over that, ive realized that it didnt make much sense, but w/e.*

Well another issue with the poll is the fact like most serious airsofters here, we have more than one weapon system as our primary.

I have used as a primary, and still own:

KS P90

Star L1A1

CA HK33KE

TM MC51SD-G3SBS w/G&P mech and 3rd party internals.

CA Steyr AUG

CA M249

CYMA AK47

Toystar K1A1 w/Dboys mech

I juggle them around because each one has advantages and disadvantages depending on terrain and role that I will be in.

I also own 2 GBB rifles/SMG and more Electrics and I plan to use those as primaries in the future:

KWC Mini UZI

WE M4A1

JLS F2000

Then there are the primaries I have used over the years that I have sold, and also guns that I have extensively evaluated that does not belong to me, which I have fielded and found to be unsatisfactory. That list could fill this thread.

So this poll may not accurately capture population samples like me.

it also doesn't explain why JG are 3rd :)

Kalash full steel, formerly cyma.

The kalash is kitted out in the gearbox from stock, bearing bushes and spring guide, and a nice strong motor.

Added a promethius barrel and madbull hop and its a beast, also extreme fire mosfet.

That's why I asked "What one you grab first and most often." I have about 7 guns I use with semi regulairity as primaries alone, but there is ONE that always comes with me, no matter what. I would say my CAM15A4 is one of my primaries cause it comes with me to most matches as a backup, but the gun I go for first, the one I'm gona use first in most matches, is gona be what I call my "primary." There's exceptions to every rule but I think *most* players, including ones that would consider themselves experienced, have a gun they would consider their primary. Fact is we're not Bond from Goldeneye, we can't carry 5 AEG's at once, and a single match really isn't long enough to need that many guns, so there's likely going to be one gun that usually comes out with one first.

Again there is no one preferred primary. It does depend on role; day or night, optics, mags, webbing, equipment I may carry along with it.

For example:

For general games, I carry a weapon which can be multi-role, put down rounds accurately when needed, easy to use, and has low chance of weapon failure, and I can carry a little more mags, and can function both day and night (RDS). That would be my old ICS M4 CQBR, which was perfect for most situations; CQB, close country, and to a degree some open country. Its simple to maintain and field strip, and reliable. I have replaced that with the WE M4A1.

At overnight games, I carry a weapon with an RDS because I can aim with that, good range, large battery because of too many unknowns like rounds to fire per engagement and etc. I would carry a HK33 because it is naturally pointable, Above average power and range, mags will fit in AR15 pouches.

In day games, in an open field, I carry an SLR. SLR has the reach, accuracy and power to pin people from longer ranges, while others manouvre to them. Not much firepower but thats compensated with other team mates. A high power SLR is more than capable of delivering rounds down for a defensive position.

In a command role, I would be using a short but high powered weapon like the P90 on lo caps, or a Mini UZI. P90 Lo caps are more reliable, but also because I won't be firing many rounds down, but still capable of engaging in the fight.

In a day DMR role both the SLR, HK33 and the Steyr AUG would work, but Steyr AUG would be less useful in close country/bush than the HK33 because of the scope though the AUG is more accurate. SLR is very difficult to use in the bush.

In the ninja mode/hit and runs, the MC51SD works very well, lower powered but accurate and quiet, so that makes up for it. P90 would be too noisy for this role as would the Mini UZI, or any other rifle.

So yes no one answer, no one brand really because I know the ins and outs of each system I don't need to rely on brand power to make my guns reliable.

....clearly someone missing the forest through the trees. I was just interested in what is the gun you grab first, what gun if we took 100 pictures of you at a match will be featured in the MAJORITY of the pics, not the best gun for what situation or even you're favorite gun, cause for me now my favorite gun is my new Boyi HK416 but I still would grab my Star M4A1 for matches over it. And no, I wouldn't use my Star at EVERY match, nor do I, that's why I own about 20 guns at this point, but if someone burst through my door right now *looks over shoulder* and said:

"Hey, we're doing a match right now! Comon!"

and that was ALL I heard, no information about where or what kind of match it would be, the weapon I would grab is what I would call my "primary."

Currently, if someone said, hey we are having a game now, I would go with the simplest loadout possible, the HK33, possibly a juggle between the HK33 and the P90. Only reason I choose the HK33 is because I have 3 hicaps for the HK33 and it uses a large battery but P90 I have only real caps and runs off minis.

If it was between the HK33 and my old ICS M4, the ICS M4 is probably what I would take.
