Regarding MARS, it is unlike anything I've seen before - it has optical prism instead of lens with reflective coating, which gives it superb optical clarity. No tint or reflection whatsoever. It also has optical sensor which adjusts brightness relative to your surroundings, as well as automatic shut off/on function.

@ericfine50 - I've bought it through private sale, but if you are in US, you can buy civilian version (google Fraser Volpe MARS) or original ITL MARS on eBay and gun forums. It is not cheap though.

@Leadmill - Yes, IDF stuff is generally overpriced online.

@Nepsilon - many times units have their own shops which modify vests to their needs, or even make new vests themselves. Marom Dolphin 77xx line seems to be the closest to modern IDF vest, but expect that you'll not find the exact duplicate of actual IDF used vest (especially SF units, which modify them heavily as a rule). There are other manufacturers too (Kata, Export Erez) If you are after total authenticity perhaps trying to contact actual unit members for advice or modify the vest yourself might be the best option.

Nepsilon, there are over 40 SF units in the IDF, not including the police force which has its own SF capable/SWAT teams like YAMAM and LOTAR Eliat. So pretty much any gear you buy is SF gear. There is no generic load out or SF load out. For op-sec reasons, they dont restrict kit like most forces do. Regular infantry guys wear timberland boots, merrells and general issue boots just like the SF guys. Rule of thumb w/ Israeli kit, if it works, and looks B.A. and low tech, its kosher.

I would just add a mitznifet, some more elastic bands around the stock and magwell of the gun (your preference of course), but definatly needs an ARMS #40 BUIS. Otherwise your kit looks great from the waist up!

I've got the mitznefet, just not in that picture. I'll definitely hop on that BUIS though, thanks for the input!

The uniform is very new, can't remember when mine was that shiny. Sometimes it is better to buy used stuff, just for that worn out look.

You also need an IDF sling, I can't remember if I've ever seen an IDF soldier without one.

And yes, some more dust and dirt would improve the kit quite a lot ;).

If you are certain of what you are doing, you can even add gadgets to your rifle - IDF SF do it more and more. But be careful, it is very easy to make mistakes, as IDF stuff is not so common, unlike Magpul and such which are out of the question. I'd suggest TDI grips, FAB stock, TDI X6 rail system (if you are rich), original Israeli metal mag clamps (unknown manufacturer, but they can be found online), If you are after regular infantry rifle look, then elastic bands are more the way to go.

To build on Hirsto, CT troops or SF operating in the urban areas, tend to have more "high speed" set ups like rails and mod-stocks. If you wanna go for that look, FAB and CAA parts are the way to go, the only problem is you'll only find real steel parts such as x-6 rails or CAA stocks. No one makes clone parts of those. If you want a more "traditional" IDF blaster, stick to the car-15 stock and old school handguards, load it up on elastic bands, a2 receiver w/ a cantilever mount and aimpoint or flat top w/ acog. both the highspeed and old school should have lots of paracord on it and and a sling. alot of guys take the handguard sling mount and use it to paracord their acog to their blaster. see link.

Heres my contribution to this amazing thread. Put this together over the summer, along with 5 or so other guys from my playing field. I am still missing the helmet, but we are awaiting word back if we have a good line on some.

Still have to clean up the loose straps and small stuff like that, but I love the fit of these uniforms. The only thing that does not fit that well is the hat, its a touch small.

I love the Marom Dolphin vest! I have the paramedic vest and it works out fantasticly with the FAL. I use the two large side pockets for mags, which hold 4 easily in each. The normal mag pouches hold an ICOM radio and Nerf darts for grenades. I guess I need a dropleg holster, as the pistol is not really in the best of spots right now, but it is actually easy to get to, its in a Blackhawk! Serpa holster clipped to the top of the vest.

Hopefully I can get out and get some better pictures in the field sometime soon.

Is a 1911 kosher for IDF kit?

Kinda, except theirs is a polymer framed version to combat the heat of a weapon in the desert. They call theirs the Bul M5. Mine does have the squared off trigger guard, but its quite a bit different then theirs.

I will probably end up getting the G19 in a drop leg holster soon enough, but for now I am stuck with the 1911

Glock is the "official" secondary weapon and even then only the special forces (Sayeret)and pilots are issued them. Very very few guys such as those in Matkal have been seen with Sigs, but the 1911 has never been officially used. Pistols, in general are quite uncommon in the IDF. You could probably get away with a WW2 period 1911 for a 1948 war impression, but there is no doubt that the BUL pistol is nothing more than an Israeli company marketing a 1911-style pistol the US civilian market and it has zero ties with the IDF.

I'm just about finished with the gun, if a Noveske receiver is acceptable. But I keep having second thoughts with the rest of the kit. At first I wanted to do the usual alief uniform route but I dislike having to gear up all the way to the vest. I never really liked vests in general because of the weight (more so the dolphin for the price) so I was wondering if some sort of lighter armor is used by the IDF, something like what the police or Shin Bet use. From all the pics I've seen its either they're wearing their uniforms only (in public places) or lugging everything like it's the exodus.

Glock 17/19 is the most common gun in the IDF (and only used by counterterror or similar specialist units; and even then only few unit members carry it), followed by SIG P226 (non railed). There is a small number of SIG P228 too. Most SIGs are from pre-Glock era of IDF (1990-2000s). Notable SIG users are - Sayeret Duvdevan and LOTAR Eilat, not sure about Makal. There may be very rare exceptions due to private purchases, but those are extremely rare and should not be considered for an IDF impression, IMHO.

FAL has been last used by the IDF in late 1960s, now it is long gone (as is the Galil and UZI).

Shirt is worn inside the trousers, you'd be hard pressed to find a photo of an IDF soldier with shirt outside trousers.

Sorry if I'm a little late to this discussion, but here are some great pictures I found not too long ago of some Israeli SF (I haven't the slightest idea which one) that should give you a good look at their carbines.

You said no Magpul, but that looks an awful lot like an EMag in the first photo.

@validtumoralarm - Those photos are of Yamam, photographed by Ziv Koren. Yamam is Israeli special police, with huge budget and liberty to chose whatever they like as their gear and weapons. Strictly speaking, they are not IDF. Their gear is also somewhat different from IDF SF - flight suits instead of regular IDF uniform, and you can see some fancy items like Underarmour hood, Oakley gloves, ESS eyewear, Suunto watches. Not so typical for IDF SF and especially not for lower budget units. They also seem to be some of last SF units to use Trijicon reflex sight, most others have switched to Mepro, MARS or even MOR (still in testing phase).
