The Chef
A true national treasure. The last hero has fallen. Rest in Peace.
Royal-Air-Force
Read his book, The Last Fighting Tommy. True hero. And when he gets to Heaven, to St Peter he shall tell: "One more soldier reporting sir. I've served my time in hell." R.I.P
Kenworth W900
Damn... such a shame. What a top bloke, I was looking forward to his Birthday celebrations next year on Points West.

Moriquende
As all the old vetarans of WW1 and WW2 die, I can't help but think that we're slowly inching our way towards a third world war. Since there's nobody left to remember us of the horrors of a real all-out-war, who will stop our future leaders from brainwashing the youth of tomorrow that war is awesome, and we should grab as much land and resources as possible? bbondaloose
RIP Harry. You've done us good. Might I also add, Darrel "Shifty" Powers, a member of the 101st Airborne during WW2 passed away a week ago also.
Kenworth W900
I was watching Band of Brothers only a few days ago. Shifty Powers seemed like a great guy, I enjoyed his interviews in it. Off Topic: if nothing else, our Airsofting gives us a greater interest in war and a heightened sense of grief over the soldiers that are lost.
Fin
I've thought the same as Moriquende, the lessons these men have taught us must never be forgot or history will repeat itself. Rest in peace
guinnessman
RIP Harry Patch. I don't think his passing will have any influence on whether we wage war in the future though. ''It makes no difference what men think of war, said the judge. War endures. As well ask men what they think of stone. War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting the ultimate practioner." Cormac McCarthy
STRELOK
WOW, just like that! the LAST veteran of ww1 dies, kind of gives me that chill in my spine. as said above, ww3 is creeping closer. RIP Harry Patch. You have made your mark on history.
Unit 318
This is saddening. I'll miss talking to the World War vets when they all call-it-quits.
Elias
I believe a man names Charles Choules who served with the British forces in WW1 is still alive and living in Australia. Edit - Its Claude Choules, not Charles, served in the Royal Navy. J
Kenworth W900
Aye, that he is. And when he is gone it really will be the last one. (Tommy that is). Overall there is believed to be three, one Canadian, one British (Choules) and one American.
Royal-Air-Force
True there are 3 left who fought in the war. The significance of Harry Patch is that he was the last survivor of the horrors of the trenches.
Jagdraben
Wasn't Henry Allingham, aged 114 and passed away last month, the last to die who saw combat in the trenches? Because I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere in that thread.
Royal-Air-Force
No Harry Patch was part of a 4-man Vickers gun team. He fought at Passchendale until he was injured when a German Shell exploded over his position killing 3 of his team and injuring him.
