JG - Jing Gong M4 GBB Rifle

The Jing Gong M4 GBB rifle is another replica of the WA design.

Just like the AGM M4 GBB it's targeting the bottom segment of the market.

It's even a little more affordable than the AGM (e.g. at this date an undisclosed shop sells the JG for US$85 and the comparable 061 model from AGM for US$110, both plus shipping).

 

First thing you notice is how much lighter the gun is compared to the AGM. Not only the gun itself because of the plastic body, but the 300g less weighing magazines are a tremendous difference (JG: 500g, AGM: 800g). The magazines from the outside are pretty much the same design, just the finish is a lighter gray. It also has the bolt stop selector switch allowing you to activate/deactivate the bolt stop function. The mags were a tight fit in the mag well, but were no problem to insert or take out. Pushing the mag release didn't make the mag fall by itself. Just wished there is more positive and noticable feedback when the mag has clicked into position. But no mag swelling or other problems. The BB spring is stronger which should benefit the bolt stop function (Bolt stop worked 100%). Filled with Green gas no leaking was noticed. If there is, it must be insignificant. At least I couldn't hear any hiss, nor did I experience any excessive performance inconsistencies while firing the gun or chronoing.

 

The body is of reinforced plastic and makes a sturdy impression. The trademarks are a different story. Well, the trademarks themselves aren't that bad, but they are framed by a thin line that got onto it during the stamping process, I guess. That gives it all real cheapo look.

 

What about the metal parts? Pretty much the same as on the AGM. What should be metal is metal except for the receiver body and the buffer (which is also plastic in the AGM). The magnet test showed quite everything must be some kind of alloy, but to my surprise the magnet was attracted by two parts: the flash hider and the lower part of the carrying handle. The fire selector sits much tighter inside the receiver and needs some force to turn it, but clicks nicely into the positions and best of all is that you cannot accidentally push it out like on the AGM, it's a real tight fit. As expected all the internal mechanical parts are not steel. The bolt is made of black plastic fitted with a copper nozzle. I couldn't check the hopup yet, but looking down the barrel I could see the rubber protuding inside of it and it seemed to stay in that position. Turning the dial though didn't seem to show too much effect. But that needs to be tested more thoroughly.

 

Worth mentioning is the bolt carrier does not have that tiny steel piece to reinforce the part of the bolt carrier that slams against the bolt stop. The bolt stop itself though has that steel piece, just like on the AGM, and is now spring loaded. Along with the strong magazine spring this seems to have ironed out the bolt stop malfunction some AGM users experienced. At least during my testing it always engaged after the last round shot or when cocking the gun on an empty mag.

 

There's not much to say about the lower receiver parts at this point as this would require an endurance test to see if, how and when something breaks. But so far they look the same as in the AGM except for the bolt stop that is spring loaded now.

The recoil buffer is a black plastic piece and the recoil spring metal (and if it matters a shiny piece of metal resembling the looks of stainless steel which it certainly isn't).

 

Chronoing with green gas at an ambient temperature of about 22 deg Celsius showed results of 390-420fps (1.4J). You can see in the video below that there were some misfeeds.

 

Edit: Yes, it has a realistic looking metal gas tube going all the way from the gas block into the receiver body. The handguard is of decent plastic and there's no hassle with the delta ring to remove or put them back together properly. The stock was pretty wobbly.

cheers for that, if you get chance to take a closer look at it wouldn't mind finding out following:

 

Seperate barrel extension? (AGM moulds it into the upper but not sure if JG will have been able to do that on a plastic upper)

 

WA compatible buffer tube thread? (AGM has milspec tube but with a thread of their own)

 

Buffer tube diameter (ie does it take RS/AGM/WA/G&P stocks or does it take AEG ones)

 

One peice alloy outer barrel, or multi part design?

 

Outer barrel using a fat collar as per the WA and AGM 061/062, or thin collar as per RS, G&P and AGM063/64/65

 

Metal end cap between front sight and handguards?

 

Quality of the front handguard - keepable or straight in the bin quality like the ones on the AGM?

 

Just trying to get a handle on wether it would be a better donor for a '3rd party MBK and custom build' than using AGMs

Good review and great pictures. Would an aftermarket metal receiver be compatible is one question I'm sure everyone will be asking though the plastic body looks ok despite the line around the trades. I also noticed that there is a bearing on top of the bolt carrier. I guess that means that it won't show that much wear at least were the bolt comes in contact with the cocking handle.

This gun looks great! The trades are decent, at least it has some!

 

I wish I had one of these instead of the AGM. I'd rather have a plastic body than a metal bodied gun that breaks fast.

 

I think I'm going to sell my AGM to buy a JG or an ACM.....

 

The JG bolt/loading nozzle looks very good. I've always had great experiences with JG internals anyways.

No reason you couldn't gun the JG and put it in your AGM.

 

True, but if I'm going to spend $100+, I might as well just buy a premium RA-Tech NPAS bolt carrier instead.

 

I just noticed that the JG is a standard Colt M4 w/ regular handguards. I won't buy it unless they come out with an RIS version.

I will have to look into most of your good questions to answer them. Maybe some of the below pics may help, but I will try to get the answers if I can. But for the outer barrel I think it's one piece (I didn't look under the sling swivel mount though). The handguard is nylone type, similar to the CA ones, better quality than the AGM for sure. I just didn't like the gaps between the two pieces that were a bittle too large for my taste.

Please check do the BCG groups are interchangeable between the AGM and JG type. Is the black plastick reinforced and more durable than the white sh** that the AGM have. That part broke within 200 bbs for me.

I tested both.

 

JG BCG inside the AGM:

The complete JG Bolt Carrier Group can be used in the AGM. It's drops right in and cycles just fine. The test AGM had inconsistencies with the bolt stop function with both the AGM and JG BCG.

 

AGM BCG inside the JG:

The AGM Bolt Carrier Group seems to be a little wider but I could still drop it into the JG with a little friction.

Properly cycling the JG with the AGM BCG was impossible. Every time the BCG got stuck somewhere halfway inside the buffertube and you had to hold the gun muzzle downwards and slap the buttstock so that the BCG could return home.

So do you prefer your JG over your AGM?

 

Sorry if I missed it, but how is the kick?

It's not my JG, a friend let me test and compare it with the AGM.

The better mags and the functioning bolt stop alone are a good reason to go for the JG, imo.

But I don't think anybody would like to keep the cheapo looking plastic body and I would also have to replace the handguard with a RIS as I play USMC style. :)

 

And yes, it kicks hard just like any WA design GBB rifle, but I missed the clanking sound of metal against metal when the gun cylces or when you cock it. That's very important. :D

Hopup dial had a sloppy feel to it and was difficult to turn and didn't seem to have any effect on the hopup rubber:

Nice pics and video KWP!

 

How's the quality of the bolt carrier? Especially the area that engages the bolt catch. Does that little area stick to a magnet? I'm curious because if that part isn't steel then and since the JG bolt catch works all the time then the bolt carrier is going to wear down alot. To the point where it won't catch anymore. However it looks way better than an AGM so no worries...
