Daytonagun AKS-74 All Steel GBB

Recommended Posts

Ugh...not good.

While I did change out the barrel and clear out the hop-up chamber, I seem to have screwed up upon reassembly. I put the gun back together, hooked up the rig (~100 PSI) and now the gun doesn't fire correctly. When I pull the trigger, most of the air is escaping through the back, somewhere around where the hose enter the whole system. The bolt reciprocates only an inch, if that, while the air is escaping.

Any ideas?

Another day, another issue with this gun.

Here's what was causing the excessive leaking:

IMAG0037.jpg

Apparently, it was already cracked since I heard a slow leak coming from there when I hooked up my rig (thinking back, I heard this the first time I hooked up my rig after the gun arrived -- I brushed it off, thinking it was the fittings on my rig). I went to unscrew it to apply some PTFE tape, but once I was unscrewing it, only the bottom half came out. For now, I'm going to try to epoxy it and layer up on PTFE tape once I screw it back in.

Does anyone know where I could get one of these fittings locally or online via express shipping? I have a game this Sunday and I'd REALLY like to use the AK this time around since it jammed so horribly last time, rendering it inoperable.

I really want to LOVE this gun, but right now it's a bit of love-hate. It's hard to justify the $700 spent when it chops up BBs and has leaks sprouting up.

You can prob get a fitting from Mc Master - and they do overnight shipping.

Also contact Sparrow - he offered a Warranty - though I doubt it will be in time for this weekend.

I'm a noob at these fittings. Would you happen to know what measurements need to be taken and whatnot?

I'm PMing Sparrow right now, but he has yet to respond to a PM I sent him days ago, so it looks like I'm going to have to sit out yet another skirmish..........

The problem you are having are more becuase of the mags rather then the gun. You have to use mid caps or low caps and they have to have a good spring in them. High caps mags or weak spring mid caps that are worn out can not push the bb fast enough and will chop the bb as a result. I seen you did take it apart. I hope you know what you are doing. If it is not tuned correctly it will not shoot correctly. I will help just email me. The valve that broke I can assure you it was not like that. We test and test and test some more again before we send out and quality control is very serius. I can get you a new valve though.

  • 2 weeks later...

*sigh*

Sparrow has yet to help me with my problem. He has now stopped replying to my emails, entirely. Also, I bought some items from him last week and paid for overnight shipping. It's a week later and I have yet to receive either my items or a reply from him. My faith in the vendor's support of this gun has diminished almost to nil. I may just sell it off after I fix it and assure that it is 100% operational. This is the 4th week that I'll have to sit out because this gun won't work properly.

He blames me for both problems with the gun, but why would they supply the gun with a magazine that will cause jamming and chopped BBs without even giving a warning that this will happen? Also, the gun leaked gas occasionally from the rear before I even fielded it or took it apart.

Great warranty support...

I tried to work with them and give them a chance, but they have better things to do. I just want results. Damn shame, really... :(

Going on....3 weeks? Still no help from Sparrow. Apparently, and this is according to Sparrow, the only person that can help Sparrow to help me has been on vacation for 3 weeks for the Chinese holiday and has ceased all communication with Sparrow. I'm really sick of this...

People at my site were asking me where the hell my AK went, since they haven't seen it for almost a month now and that I've been using a pistol and a loaner, when possible. It's probably not great press when I'm forced to say "....still broken."

I've also emailed Justin directly, so let's see how that goes...

Justin got back to me within an hour asking for my address as he has many of the pieces I need on-hand. FINALLY, a resolution. Next time...straight to the source....

He's even sending me 2 of the pieces, just in case.

My faith has been partially restored.

These types of issues are why I refuse to buy escort based replicas, period. After years and sever escort based replicas later, it's clear to me that no matter what I do they will never but skirmishable, and when they ARE, they break in a few hours.

On the flip side, after owning several, I've used them exclusively at all-weekend long ops without trouble, whereas other times I have had times when they've gone down. No worse than any AEG out there, but not at the level of reliability of a BV gun.

My friend Bobbo (I think he's registered as ErikBobbo here?) came by my house after picking up his AKS-74 from the postal office today; first impression was very good!

It's based on a Kalash, so obviously the externals were fairly "rough", but other than that; top notch!

We hooked it up to my rig and a bottle of CO2 and did some testing.

We tried it first at ~120 psi and got a consistent reading of 370fps (+/-1.5fps) with KSC .2g BB's and an Xcortech X3200 chrono.

We then increased the pressure to 140 psi (the max guaranteed pressure) and got 385-390 fps.

Anyway, our full auto limit is at 350fps, so we had to turn it down.

At 110 psi we were right below our limit, at 345-348fps. Not bad!

With the regulator turned down this low, semi was a bit sluggish, but in full auto the gun was cheerfully jumping around like a ###### off jackhammer. Fun!

Short vid,

dryfiring without the dust cover:

well what furnature did you have, because from the look of they are getting easier to get a hold of so maybe your not the only one on LI with one :D

Mine has plum furniture (although I was forced to use the orange highcap due to feeding issues with my plum midcaps) as well as a vertical grip and laser on a rail system that's under the foregrip. I also had a side-mount with a Bushnell Holosight (basically an EOTech sight) attached. I was in a full multicam get up. Also, it stopped working halfway through the day which is documented on the first page of this thread. I'd be VERY surprised if someone else had one because Mike (the guy who teaches the noobs) said that he hadn't seen one of these at the field, ever. But, hey, it'd be cool if there was another guy running around with one so that I can have a third-person perspective on how awesome the gun is when shooting, hehe.

As an aside, I did install the parts that Justin sent me. Problem is that air is escaping from the threads of that part. Justin supplies a plastic washer, of which I am not sure the purpose of. I tried screwing the piece in with/without said plastic washer and there's still major air escapage coming out of the threads, no matter what. Can anyone recommend some high PSI sealant that won't glue the piece in place? I tried plumber's PTFE tape and it still leaks, just about 50% less. The gun won't cycle on full-auto and is iffy on semi with the leaking air.

Yea, I do remember you! Small world, haha. I'm gonna get to filing down the mag catch a bit to allow the mags to sit in the "well" properly. Thanks for offering your mids to see if it works.

yeah I know right I didnt think it could be possible to have a coinsidence like that on an international forum. Yeah if you file them you should have good results. The Dboys/kalash part of your daytonagun is whats causing that to happen. every mag mag I have had to be filed a little before they worked, but now that I did that they work great. Hit me up Via PM about when your going to go out to coram next

Haha, yeah, that's awesome. I'm probably going to be at Coram this weekend, if I can fix the leaking issue with my AK. I went to home depot and bought some different o-ring and rubber washers to cure the leak but then realized that I ran out of Co2!!! UGH!!!
