So the plan is to ban a infinately reusable material made from one of the most common substances on the planet (sand), and replace it with a limited life version using the dwindling resource of oil...............? Totally bonkers.

Bet they don't include the wine glasses they drink their fine wines from!

Mind you, seeing they have banned filiment bulbs and replaced them with those nasty flouresent bulbs, anything is possible.

Don't think they banned them, infact I'm pretty sure as the shop I worked at them sold them, an old guy was chatting to me about them and said he comes here and buys loads cause his wife is losing her vision and the eco lights aren't bright enough for her or something.

They've just restricted it to energy rating C and above.

RNIB suggest halogen lamps for vision impared as they give hard light but save energy.

You can tell whoever thought of this has never tried to work with those plastic pieces of *suitcase*... they get stuck together RIDICULOUSLY easily... vacuum forms between glasses and before too long youve got stacks of unusable plastic gash sitting behind your bar.

And every bar Ive worked at has had a hot dishwasher too :P

Ive Got a Cunning plan use your fists! or are they going to make us wear some sort of apparatus which prevents us from punching?

i have the perfect solution

super glue the glasses to the hands

that way they can't punch or trow a glass

and they still get to drink beer out of glass

or they could make beer cheaper that way they will be to drunk to fight

As an abstract concept I can see the logic, but the reality, as pointed out here just seems to have FAIL stamped on it.

Paper cups could be a possibility?

Recylable, the basis grows on trees, can't glass someone with it.

Downsides - expese in purchase and expense in disposal as businesses get charge to have their waste removed.

Plus they'd have to be paper & wax on construction so they may not be that recyclable.

Government iniatives = fail.

Feel free to turn that into demotivational poster. Its just more blue sky non-joined up thinking, Im sure smoeone with half a braincell will point out the flaws in the plan before too long to those who want to implement it; God knows, they might even listen and realise their stupidity.

Might...

*fruitcage* ridiculous.

By that logic, hands should be banned. So should elbows, knees, and feet. You can use them as weapons too.

HUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRR, UK.

To be fair, alot of Americans kept thier kids from school because a speech from Barack Obama about working hard and personal responsibility was to "socialist", so swings and roundabouts.

I have, on several occasions. Students...

I know it's adding to the necropost but...

Experienced the wrath of a plastic pint glass about 2 weeks ago, I didn't even realise he'd given me one (since it looked the same, with the usual "T" logo on it) and only realised when I tasted the beer.

Two words: God awful.

but, that's like saying being smashed by a brick is better than being stabbed, surely?

they may not lacerate peoples faces, but blunt force trauma has issues of its own :P

ps, im not advocating banning glass, and am a big fan of the barrel jugs :)
