Pte Mong
Just got round to working on my SR25 (finally) and i've noticed there arent any 'vents', the cut out 'windows' at the back. every gearbox i've ever seen has these cutouts, does any one know if there is a reason this stretched V2 'box doesnt have them? TriChrome
It's probably because of how the upper and lower receiver go together. TM M16's (and their clones) had the holes in the back of the gearbox so the upper receiver tabs could easily clear the gearbox without any problem. Some M16 varients whose upper slides forward to come off the lower (thus no need for tabs) won't have those cuts. Other V2 guns like the G3 and MP5 also don't have those cuts because the body has no tabs.
Pte Mong
ah, good point fella, legacy of the TM M16's eh? so nothing to do with air space inside the gearbox then? i always wondered if those 'vents' were there so the piston moving back and forth didnt compress the air in the back of the box, (even tho they arent sealed), like a two stroke engine? or am i just over-thinking? TriChrome
Over thinking a little bit. There's tons of areas for air to come back into the gun, even from the nozzle itself on the back stroke of the piston.
