Burke
So I bought 3 cutdown BAR pouches to be used as rigger pouches off ebay. Im not sure if they actually did this in WW2 or not but they look cool and hold alot and were also cheaper than actual rigger pouches lol. They are from a kahki BAR belt so they will fit in with the rest of my equiptment. Im just curious if anybody has seen it done before?
Azulsky
Cant say that they cut up BAR belts but there are examples of rigger pouches that look like the cells of the BAR Belt. Look here http://www.serviceofsupply.com/ReproFieldGearEquipment.htm
Burke
Yeah, I know what rigger pouches looks like. Im asking if anyone has ever heard of or seen ww2 pics of soldiers using cut up BAR pouches as rigger pouches...
Jorge14
I think i read somewhere about that, sounds very familiar... I honestly don't see it not being done, very rare I would guess as I think paratroopers jumping with BARs was rare on D-Day
Burke
Yeah not to be used for Bar mags tho, just as a universal pouch like they used normal Riggers pouches for.
Jorge14
Oh, well then in that case, I don't know, personally I'd say no but given the fact it's WWII and it has to do with paratrooper rigging, never say never.
Webby
I honestly don't see it not being done, very rare I would guess as I think paratroopers jumping with BARs was rare on D-Day I'm quite sure they weren't issued with them until they got supplied from the advancing line infantry on the ground, as they were far too big and heavy to jump with anyway! The BAR belt has lots of loops down the back for retaining the actual belt part of the rig, so theres nothing to say it couldnt have been cut up and looped onto a belt. voodookid88
Actually it was done. If you check out Michel De Trez's book at the point of no return, on page 18, There is an original web gear setup using cut up bar pouches and regular Riggers pouches together, So this is very plausible.
