Stealthbomber Posted March 14, 2010 Report Share Posted March 14, 2010 Just a bit of a heads-up for everybody... I've seen this on 3 or 4 other forums I'm on. It seems to be the latest trend by spammers and hackers to mess with people. People are getting PMs saying that there are security issues with their account and warning them their account will be suspended if they don't visit some website or send some information or whatever. Here's an example of the sort of thing:- Dear, [username]! A virus alert was noticed on your computer. We highly recommend you to check your computer and perform online virus check at our site immediately: http://virus-total.servebbs.org/online-scanner If you do not pass this test we will have to delete your account and forward a complaint to your ISP with attached log file. [log file full of stuff]. Can't confirm if the logfile actually has relavent info in it but I suspect it's just full of nonsense. The link is to one of those sites which shows a fake virus scan and shows your PC is "infected". Obviously most people on Arnies are aware that only Arnie and Marlowe are able to delete accounts so if you get a "warning" from anybody besides them feel free to ignore it and we'd appreciate it if you report anybody sending these kind of PMs. Cheers. Strange this was that the email seemed to have to come from a generic site admin email address, could the site itself have been infected/hacked? Link to post Share on other sites
