Yours definitely had wobble. And it has since been fixed. Who else's has been confirmed to have wobble? Because out of the 3000 units sold so far, yours is the only one that I'm aware of that has been

I like how me pointing out the obvious in my last post has garnered a negative rep. LOL. Haters gonna hate.

Most of these questions have been answered to the fullest based on the info at hand.

Is the gearbox a V2 or a V3?: Magpul PTS says it's a V3. Others feel strongly that it's a V2. What defines a GB as a V2 and a V3 differs depending to what some people feel defines the two gearboxes. From what we can see, it appears to be a hybrid of the two designs: mostly V2 styling with a captured motor cage ala V3 gearbox. If that's a deal breaker for you, don't buy it. It matters less what version the manufacturer calls it, and matters more about how well it performs initially and over the long run, etc.

Who makes the internals?: No one's saying, including the Magpul PTS. They've simply said that it was outsourced and that it was NOT outsourced to ARES. Many have said that the internals are undeniably ARES given many key design features that they'd consider telltale signs of being made by ARES. Unless ARES and Magpul PTS come out and say clearly that ARES did in fact manufacture it, we'll never be sure. Why? Because there are other possibilities that are also plausible. (1) Perhaps Magpul PTS sat down and looked at all the different gearbox designs currently out there and picked through and chose the elements of the designs they liked for the application they needed ... and most of those ideas came from Ares' gearboxes. (2) Perhaps they went to ARES (which is unlikely given diplomatic ties between the two companies have never been the greatest) and had Ares make the internals to Magpul PTS' specs. (3) Perhaps they went to ARES' OEM and had the OEM make the internals to Magpul PTS' specs. Any of the above could be true. But people seem to be a little too fixated on who made the internals, when they should be more focused on how the internals ultimately perform. Yes, you can predict a lot about the internals of a gun based on the manufacturer who made them. At the same time, manufacturers are usually capable of making things to all different specs, tolerances, and QCs. Just because one manufacturer might consistently make things to a standard the general public isn't pleased with, doesn't mean that they're incapable of doing better. Sometimes the money isn't there to make it better. It's entirely possible and plausible that whoever Magpul PTS went to to have the internals made were required to make things to a certain spec, tolerance, and QC. Time will tell. But while evidence may strongly imply a certain manufacturer, we may never know 100% is who makes these internals. People need to get over that, and refocus on the important matter at hand: how well do these internals perform?

Regarding the GB version, It is about easy replacements, and I don't think I have ever seen a spare part for any PTS product.

And Magpul PTS has officially stated that they fully intend on selling spare parts for these products, especially for any proprietary parts. Furthermore, parts that fail under normal parameters and are covered within the warranty included, will be repaired either by PTS themselves or through one of their authorized international distributors.

What products have Magpul PTS manufactured in the past that needed spare parts, and which other companies have listed for their own products? The only thing that comes to mind that needed spare parts is the top cover latch on the FPG which a few people (myself included) have broken. And in that one circumstance, Magpul PTS sends a replacement FOC on a case by case basis as part of their warranty support. They've also sold replacement grip bases for the AEG MIAD and MOE pistol grips. What other PTS products have needed spare parts?

This is the first time Magpul PTS has released their own AEG, and as such they know that some wear and tear parts will need to be replaced over time. They're aware of that and intend to support that. The reason why we haven't seen many spare parts for their products in the past was because of the nature of their products (stocks, grips, BUIS, handguards, magazines) had such low failure rates, that spare parts were never necessary to be listed as commonly available parts. That was the past. A complete AEG changes all of that since their internals inevitably need maintenance and replacement parts. And we will see them ... eventually.

With all the ###### around it ;) sorry i just had to pull my words in, i told people like a year ago that i heard it was STAR/ARES production and it strongly looks like it is still ;) why need to hide? PTS being quiet on that and you stating we might never know and all that, really strongly suggest that they don't want to make it public but like i said then and i will say now, truth will come out unofficially or officially whatever, people will find out that sooner or later. And no need to flame me like before you got all my words killed here ;) i don't care of that anymore. That is simply my opinion what i did heard and i still believe that is what it happened but i guess you will never hear it from the Horses mouth as they do not want to admit it.

Excellent points from uscmCorps. With the release expected very soon, we'll have have all the information we actually need.

Whether the gearbox is called v2 or v3 is of little consequence, as it's obviously not a direct copy of either of the original TM designs anyway. What is of consequence is whether the gearbox has the same inherent weakness of the TM version 2, or the strength of the TM version 3. Also whether it accepts TM standard replacement parts or not will be a very important detail.

Is there any information on the expected cost of replacement parts? I hope they won't go down the same road as Systema...

I didn't realize you were still around Paul, er, I mean Frontiers. Magpul PTS don't talk about the suppliers/OEMs for many of their products. The point is ... there's no proof either way. So we should move on to what is important: are the internals good? Time will tell.

I don't believe they will be Systema-like prices. I think they'll be en par with most other aftermarket part manufacturers. But that is simply the impression I got when PTS and I last spoke on the matter. Things might have changed (though not likely).

IMHO, someone can make a soapie about this whole Magpul PTS ACR saga. Over the -years- there's been speculation of the variety of versions- AEG, GBB, PTW. Then the internals - mechboxes made by Systema, G&P, Ares, etc. And it doesn't help when there's been so many rumoured (and/or premature) release dates. We seem to spend more time speculating and worrying instead about availability of parts, cost, & durability.

Maybe for people who are concerned about durability/longevity it may be easier to just ask Scuffer :-

1) Do you still have your ACR?

2) How is it holding up?

3) Any breaks yet?

4) How many rounds do you think you've put through it?

5) How's your playing type (primarily semi or do you use full auto, and if so duration of trigger pull)?

6) Have you abused it? (e.g. dropped it in mud, stomped on it, etc.)?

Unfortunatly I can't really answer your questions. Months back I had access to a pre-production model to do a quick review of, take some pictures and use for an afternoons skirmish, later I had again limited access to a production model for a few more pictures and a brief look.

The problem is with both of these I wasn't able to take them apart, nor was I able to do any kind of scientific performace tests so I can't commet on long term usage, only initial first look and feel of it.

1) Do you still have your ACR? Unfortunatly not.

2) How is it holding up? U/K

3) Any breaks yet? U/K - although I had 2 stoppages as detailed in the skirmish report part earlier on.

4) How many rounds do you think you've put through it? We put around 3,500 - 4,000 BBs through it on the day.

5) How's your playing type (primarily semi or do you use full auto, and if so duration of trigger pull)? Primarily I play using semi, but I gave it a good few bursts. Trigger pull, from what I can remember was short, but you were able to feel the 'click' from the micro switch at about 3/4 pull.

6) Have you abused it? (e.g. dropped it in mud, stomped on it, etc.)? I did throw it around a fair bit actually, much to the dismay of some on lookers! Picking up some dents, scratches and BBs hits, it was also used as a prop to help me up and down while kneeling to reload BFGs. It held up fine to that, but again I can't comment on longer term, nor was I able to fully pressure test it.

I don't know who you are implying with but my name is not Paul so drop it if you don't know any better. And er..did i hit a touchy spot? need to try to flame me again ;) nice try mate but went badly to the woods and posting peoples names in forums is not very nice thing to do, but i did not expect class from you anyways, kinda expected. I leave you continue the cat and mouse game which is pretty obvious can see what it is but still keep on denying it or playing the game that let the quality play on ;) but still no name there haha.

All for an airsoft gun? Srsly? Who woulda thought a hunk of metal that shoots plastic bb's could ruffle so many feathers?

Hows about 'them bears. . .

Anyways. .

I should chime in as i have a Masada from G&P (well actually i'm not sure if i qualify hahah) but the gun has been awesome. My Cousin and I skirmished this rifle a few times and it was a breeze using for CQB and Field. Recently, the gun went through an upgrade having installed a Matrix Torque motor and Upgraded Spring and Madbull TB. Not sure why my father put in, but the gun shot well before and then like a beast after the upgrades. If the New PTS is anything or more than this G&P I'm gonna go apeshit at how awesome this gun will be. The only im concerned about are the gear quality and inner barrel being TB or not. I always change out my pistons and cylinder head in every gun so those don't carry much weight with me.

I did notice two things with the G&P Masada that might be an issue for this upcoming PTS. First, the Ambi selector wore down weird, having a serious switching issue after being used to go to and from Semi and Full through only bout 10 games or so, and even after taking the gun apart and trying to fix the selector. Hopefully the mechanism is much more durable in this upcoming PTS build. The second was the lever for the Barrel Assembly was made of pot metal and cracked fairly easily trying to release the barrel. The internals were great except for the Piston and cylinder head, given it was a G&P i was sure the parts were decent.

I loved this gun and it played so well on the field, banged it around a bit taking prone shots and no breaking or wobble or what have you after some good skirmishes. Even my cousin agreed the gun shot so well and felt great in the hands.

If the Material in the PTS is even close to the G&P model and if its possibly better, you're looking at an awesome gun to be had. The only thing i'm wondering is if the color scheme between the CNC upper and the Poylmer bodies will match, as the G&P model had an off colored CNC upper compared to the lower. And as well what butt stock will be shipped with the production model, as i love having the folding stock.

I have two black PTS on order from a local shop, i'm not sure if their source is in Asia or the US but if he had the access to the G&P Masada as soon as it was released then i should be getting mine soon if the release date is this month, crossing fingers*

Well it's already out in Japan but I'm not gonna spend USD$658 on it :P. Waiting for my HK shipment.

Nice pics of the FDE-version att both Echigoya and Fortress-Web. The latter site even has a comparison between the A&K and Magpul PTS version.

http://fortress.militaryblog.jp/e149055.html

I don´t understand a word, but as gun-porno the site will do just fine :-)

Eagerly awaiting my own to be shipped out of HK..I hope it will come soon, but not too soon.. I calculated it will cost me about EUR 120 to get it through customs. making it a slightly less good deal than the EUR 390 it costs from HK.. :-/

Since there has been pre-production samples and early series examples out for several months, someone somewhere should be able to tell us something about the reliability and quality of the gun by now?

The pictures at fortress show a single logo on the grip...I thought I saw a picture at ehobby or wgc that had multiple logos on the grip...

I think the pics on "fortress" mirrors what I have seen so far, that is: one Magpul logo on pistol grip, and outlined magpul logos as grip texture.

I also note that today ehobbyasia show all the masada variants as sold out. So I guess that those of you who hasn´t preordered yet will have to wait a bit longer.

I have read earlier in this thread arguments that the A&K Masada looks better than the Magpul one. For some reason I have thought so also. The side by side comparison pics on "fortress" made me look in to why..

I think the A&K looks more balanced estetically. It has the slender, foldeable stock and a shorter hand guard, showing more of the barrel. The chunky fixed stock and the longer handguard of the stock Magpul PTS makes it look more chubby, despite being longer, I think. I also compared it to the basic ACR model, which, despite the solid stock looks better balanced due to the longer barrel.

So my conclusion is that the Magpul PTS version will benefit from a folding stock and a longer barrel - estetically that is. I shamelessly stole some pics of the interwebz and edited for your viewing pleassure.
