ratboy44
For those in the US. civil war sutlers most likely sell collarless shirts that are ideal. as are the canvas/wool trousers they sell aswell. waistcoats optional. acw period footwear just as good but anyform of plain black leather boot would suffice. Hurrah
Don't just look at black boots. Brown leather is cheaper in the period as it requires less less expensive processing to make. Black leather often uses chrome in its processing, and chrome is at a premium during the war (look at all the late war austerity kit, black leather 'webbing' where the norm in 1940 gets replaced with canvas equipment with and brown leather re-enforcements). So brown boots are more common later in the war, pre war more suitable for "roughing it boots" and working mans boots etc, but a bit of a fo-pah to wear at weddings and funerals etc. As for sutlers, yes, plainer shirts (IE not 'bib fronts'), the trousers and "sack coats" all have that 'look' suitable for the period (though more the rural/working class end).
