The HK 416 GBBR by VFC

VFC engineering at it's finest?

So my HK416C(2015 version) just arrived. It comes with the new magazine. For some reason they switched the flash hider to a simple M4 style birdcage one.

WGC was nice enough to chrono the gun before sending it to me, however they left the magazine full with gas and some BBs. :P

After a bit of cleaning and relubing I put in the mag and shoot the gun. First shot worked fine but the second trigger pull simply let the hammer go and nothing happened.

I examined what might be the problem and I found out that the mag was not seated correctly. Oh well I just push it in harder or so I tought but nope! The magazine would not move inside the magwell any more despite the magazine catch clearly not keeping the mag well.

So first I took apart the gun and inserted the mag in the lower receiver with no upper on it. The mag seated right. I assembled the gun again, inserted the magazine which again would not seat right and after I pulled the bolt back I noticed that the magazine's real steel lip imitations are already hitting the upper receiver's sides. These ones:

However if I kept pushing the mag in while shooting the gun it worked fine it seemed there was a good contact between the mag and the nozzle. So I looked under the magazine catch:

So the question is what should I file down: the fake lips or the mag catch? Also the bolt seems really sticky(I polished it only a little).

Edit: or just file the part of the magazine where the mag catch goes in.

I would file down the upper receiver instead.  thats the issue anyways, the magazine will fit a standard M4 so its the tolerances on the upper that needs modding.

I've owned the HK416A5 for a couple months now, so here are some thoughts if anyone actually reads this thread: The good: -External quality is great -Ambidextrous features are great- th

Last weekend we made a comparision video about using 2nd gen VFC magazine or GHK G5 magazine. There are a few guns but you can see the difference when we use two HK416.

I have the m27 version and would like the option of converting it to a standard hk416d model. Am I right in saying all id need for this is a shorter front end and outer barrel as well as inner? Where would be the best place to source these parts?

Directly from VFC.  Send them an email to their sales department and they will take care of you.  Sometimes they are slow to respond and sometimes you have to send the request twice, but you will get your parts.

As I said I took apart the mag and filed the upper part of the hole where the mag catch goes in until the magazine seat fine in the gun.

I think I'll just carry it back to the store..

It already started damaging my bolt carrier because the mag was giving upwards pressure on it :(

Thanks for the reply, I obviously read over your previous reply :)

Upper reciver and buffer tube threading destroyed, internals grinded down without lubrication (I just use it for display now. But was kinda tired messing with Co2 on the 416)

I am currently looking at tippmann m4 HPA but i really hate that sircle thing in the midle of the M4. Do you know if there is anyone who have swaped the internals from the tippmann m4 to the Hk416?

So I'm considering buying this gun and learning its internals and how to maintain it. If anyone owns this gun, I'd like to hear about what to do with it once it arrives. Parts upgrades, known problems, anything that has to do with the gun working properly. I know VFC has quality externals as I've seen in videos and pictures, but I read on this forum that the internals might have problems.
