Evening all, just back from South West Wargames www.swwargames.co.uk i've recently moved down to the Devon area and thought i'd give these guys a go. I'm mainly a milsim player but needs must and the Mrs was driving me crazy (hope she doesn't see this!) so I booked in for the day, the online booking was painless and fast so off to a good start. I turned up at 9.30 for a 10AM start and they, amazingly, started on time! the book in and payment was also quick and efficient so happy days and lets start shooting. There were around 60 players (rough count) who listened to the safety brief and the teams were divided up in a parting of the red sea manner (if you dont know watch 'The Ten Commandments' with Charlton Heston). The game plan was a modified capture the flags routine that everyone in airsoft has played, the funny bit was that the people with the flags stuck them down the back of their gear so they looked like mad dodge-em cars with the orange flags stuck up (two fingers to concealment then!)

The site itself is great with loads of buildings and different types of terrain however we weren't allowed in any of the buildings (boo hoo), onto lunch with a nice clean burger van (no really it was clean) and plenty of room in the indoor safezone. After lunch it was escort the VIP/ try to kidnap the VIP, it was at this point that one of the hi vis marshalls decided to shoot me in the back! yes you heard right, i've been airsofting for 7 years and that has never happened to me, I shouted hit and turned to find a marshall looking sheepishly at me with an AEG levelled I said 'Erm,' and he said 'no just carry on' (sorry is the hardest word!). I didn't see any unfair play or any serious untowardness, the gameplay was a bit limited for me but as I said I mainly milsim so what the hell do I know, as for the site it's well worth having a go and its a generally well run operation (with one glaring exception) so get yourselves down there but don't turn your back on the marshalls!!unsure.gif.

Nice review buddy, I was marshalling there for the first time after a break in airsoft of two years. It must`ve been one of the player marshalls who shot you, I`m wondering if it was the same one who ND`d during the safety briefing, bad drills especially from a member of staff. I hope it was an unusual occurence as I`ve known the head marshall there previously from another site, and he tends to run a very tight ship.

The day itself was a mix of walk ons and a private party, the first time it had been tried at the site and there was some concern that it might not have worked. But as the day went on and the groups mingled a bit more it sort of came together quite nicely and it also gave the private party players a bit more insight into kit etc. besides normal hire guns.

I must admit that initially I was a bit dubious as the site allows quite young players to have a go at the hobby, but surprisingly the sportmanship exhibited by the younger players was quite good once they got into it. I think it was some of the new players who had the flags in the back of their gear, once they realised they stood out like a sore thumb I noticed some of them being a bit more discreet.

If you normally do milsim you might want to have a look at some of the events SWWG run as opfor against Royal Marines (bit late but I think there was one on today). They tend to be run more along milsim lines as a pseudo training resource for the Royals, well worth a look.

Cheers

Dale

Thanks for the heads up i’ll keep an eye out for that, I agree that the kids were good as gold really. I had a message from the head marshall who’s a nice fella and knows how to organise a mob. The marshall shooting thing was nothing , I think the guy was clearing a hire gun and managed to hit me (if you mind being shot you shouldn’t play the game!). I’ll introduce myself next time i’m along,

regards, Steve.

Kids were a bit of a one-off for this event re walkons as they are normally kept separate form the walkon group.

Still thanks for the feed back.

Slick thanks for the map, incoming re responce.

Pugwash I normally give a quick tour of the site for new players who have not attended before so they can orientate them selves during game play. Unfortunatly on this occation I was a bit hectick so could not oblige and I missed a game and only found out about site restrictions at the last mo.

Stay tuned as we have 3 other potential sites we are working on in the Devon area to be announced in the new year if all goes well with the negotionations with land owners.

Jezz.
