I’ve got a query.

I’ve been playing a lot of FFXV. Currently at lvl 80+, and want to ensure I don’t lose that progress (mobo died last week, so now doing a nearly all new build of the machine)

I acquired my current copy through... unscrupulous means, and want to buy the game on steam. However, I don’t know what steam supports in terms of taking an existing save file, and integrating that into the library and cloud. I also don’t know if it can tell if it’s not a legit copy of the game-save file, and prevents it working.

Has anyone done this before?

The game should have a save game folder.  I don't see why it would tagged as questionable so you should just be able to make a back up of the save file and copy it into the Steam save game folder and let the cloud do it's thing.

I keep a separate save game folder for some games that I can just swap into the Steam save game folder.

What are peoples thoughts on antivirus software?  My Kaspersky has expired and I don't want to renew it due to the security concerns, warranted or not.  I was thinking about going with Bitdefender but it seems a lot of people think Windows Defender is sufficient nowadays.  Baked into OS etc.  I run adblockers so that filters out a lot of .

I installed Bitdefender and the machine started running like a dog. Tried total AV, was just an advert machine.

Back to malwarebytes and just keep extending the trial.

The steam upload worked, took some detective work as there were 2 places it kept overwriting my decent saves, figured it out in the end!

Evening, all!

Can anyone recommend any 'ok' video editing software? That's free!

I'm a complete novice, and won't be going to the nth degree, just something I can, well, edit footage with. User friendly would help!

On top of that, maybe a cheap laptop capable of using said software. Second hand is fine. Lower cost, the better, as I will be using it solely for this purpose and it will live in a bag for days at a time. Something off the shelf, I'm not wanting to build one.

Thanks in advance!

Quite a lot of free software out there depending on your needs.

DaVinci Resolve.  Very capable software but needs a somewhat beefy PC and maybe a bit advanced for a novice.

Maybe take a look at HitFilm Express.

VideoPad, Avidemux,  Openshot, are a bit more basic.

No idea on laptops though.

Cheers!

Unfortunately, I'm not building things.

If I can't use a hammer, I'm not in to fabrication.

With electricky stuff, I want to hand over money and it work.

Hence me buying a dji drone, and not building one that will function better but cost a vast amount of swearing and time...

Monitor issue.  The taskbar in windows 10 puts a highlight around currently running programs with a couple of pixels at the very bottom edge of the screen that are double-highlighted.  The highlight being stuck on the same colour for many hours is causing stuck pixels with increasing regularity.

I tried changing the colour scheme of windows to something grey and neutral but the problem persists  Auto-hiding the task bar still shows the slim highlighted line at the very bottom of the display at all times.  Looked around online but nobody else seems to be having this and I can't figure out how to disable it in windows, which seems pretty ridiculous.   Any ideas anyone might have would be great.

Yep tried all the theme settings, res matches.  Not sure what scaling is but I'll look in to it.

I think the monitor has that but I'd end up with a pretty noticeable black line along the bottom permanently.  I also get the feeling that the pixels that are now highlighted for long periods would also end up getting temporarily stuck and they'd be higher in my view that way, I do get the idea though.  For now I've moved the whole taskbar up along the left edge of the screen which is super weird and nasty but I'll see what ASUS replies to me with.

E-mail question

Person A sends an e-mail to Person B

"Hey.  Can you send me that thing?" time stamped at 14:00

Person B sends an e-mail to Person C

"Hey.  Can you send that thing to person A" time stamped at14:40

Person C sends an e-mail to Person A

"Hey.  Here's that thing you asked for" time stamped at14:20

How could it show the person sent the e-mail before they were asked to?  Is this a case of time zones *fruitcage* up the timeline?

Today I received a sexy email, see below. Not overly concerned but that is my principle email it came to and the password was assigned to a website I'm signed up to (www.kitmaker.net). I have changed the password to that website.

What else should I be concerned about?

Tom.

p.s. their claim is only partially true;), I only have a webcam connected for Skype.

Lawrence Martin <Quinn@asidd.com>

I know M*********** is one of your password on day of hack..
Lets get directly to the point.
Not one person has paid me to check about you.
You do not know me and you're probably thinking why you are getting this email?
in fact, i actually placed a malware on the adult vids (adult porn) website and you know what, you visited this site to experience fun (you know what i mean).
When you were viewing videos, your browser started out operating as a RDP having a key logger which provided me with accessibility to your display and web cam.
immediately after that, my malware obtained every one of your contacts from your Messenger, FB, as well as email account.
after that i created a double-screen video. 1st part shows the video you were viewing (you have a nice taste omg), and 2nd part displays the recording of your cam, and its you.
Best solution would be to pay me $1058.
We are going to refer to it as a donation. in this situation, i most certainly will without delay remove your video.

[case SeNSiTiVe, copy & paste it]
You could go on your life like this never happened and you will not ever hear back again from me.
You'll make the payment via Bitcoin (if you do not know this, search 'how to buy bitcoin' in Google).
if you are planning on going to the law, surely, this e-mail can not be traced back to me, because it's hacked too.
I have taken care of my actions. i am not looking to ask you for a lot, i simply want to be paid.
if i do not receive the bitcoin;, i definitely will send out your video recording to all of your contacts including friends and family, co-workers, and so on.
Nevertheless, if i do get paid, i will destroy the recording immediately.
If you need proof, reply with Yeah then i will send out your video recording to your 8 friends.
it's a nonnegotiable offer and thus please don't waste mine time & yours by replying to this message.
