GI Tye Posted January 21, 2011 Report Share Posted January 21, 2011 I purchased the G&P WOC M7A1 from eHobbyasia.com on 12/30/10 at about 11pm Central Time. After all holidays aside I recieved my new gas blow back toy on January 18, 2010. Looking at the overall processing time, it was a bit long but with the holidays it was not too bad considering I live in the central states of the US. Now onto the review: History The back round of the M7A1 can be summed up as Troy Industries' Close Quarters Battle Covert Deployment Carbine. It comes as a complete upgrade package that fits the 5.56mm NATO or 6.8mm SPC. For more information on this and other Troy Industries products, check out their website at www.troyind.com. Out of the Box The inital package was well packed and came via post office. Seemed to have been handled very well. Upon opening the packing paper I was a bit concerned because the first thing I read on the box was this: Wondering if eHobbyasia.com screwed up or G&P just uses the same box for all guns, I was eager to open up and see what was inside this box. Opening it up I found even more well packaging around all parts as well as the gun itself. When I opened up the bubble-wrap, I found a beautiful G&P WOC gas blow back gun and not and AEG as the box was labled! The G&P WOC M7A1 After removing the glued on plastic orange flash hider and replacing it with the Skull Frog SBR Suppressor, then placing my Aimpoint CompM2 site on the upper rail of this fine airsoft replica, I looked over every aspect of this gun. (Note: In some pictures there is an actual, AR15 charging handle installed. This did not come with my original purchase. I upgraded this right away as instructed by other owners of WA M4's due to it's weak durability.) Shaking the gun violently in my hands only created two rattles: the sling mount and the lower trigger guard. Not bad! Everything is solid on this thing. The stock has zero wiggle and the railed, foregrip is completely rock hard and perfectly inline with the upper receiver rail. Beautiful! The only thing I found that wiggles slightly is the stubby, vertical foregrip which I think I can alter a bit, and make it stop. I also found the rear flip up sight to have a very, very little wobble but with tighten the screw a bit, it eliminated that. Zero wiggle between upper and lower receivers as well. Very top notch. The marking are all high quality on all aspects of the G&P WOC. Magpul label on the stock, Troy, Stag Arms and Vltor marking all over from front to rear. Very nice. There was a safety sticker on the right side mag-well that I believe was put there by eHobbyasia.com but it came right off to expose the words, "CLOSE QUARTER BATTLE CARBINE 5.56MM SPECIAL ARMS & MUNITIONS". Exterior magnet test proved that almost everything on the exterior is some sort of strange metal other than steel. However, I did find the front and rear sight mounts are steel, front and rear receiver pins are steel and the rear buffer tube lock all seemed to love the magnet. The Internals The internals are nicely installed and freshly tight. Running the magnet over the internals led to a bit of disappointment as nothing stuck to it. I did find a little pull of the magnet on the bolt catch but not enough to say it is steel. This is a small let down but not enough to discourage one from buying as steel upgrades are readily available. Aside from a steel bolt upgrade, every other internal component is rather inexpensive to purchase. Shooting Right now I am a bit limited by my shooting capabilities with there being 12" of snow outside and I live in town where shooting guns isn't recommended unless you enjoy explaining to the neighbors (and possibly the local law enforcement) what you are doing. I did however get to take a few shots off in the basement which created a large smile on my face accompanied by giddy laughing like a little school girl on Christmas morning. It was very satisfying to shoot! Chrisp and solid with a nice kick in my shoulder. It seems to be pin-point accurate at 20'. I say this because I shot two or three single rounds bursts at a box and I only found one hole! Dead on! I am eager to shoot this sweet gun outside this spring. GI Tye Posted January 26, 2011 Author Report Share Posted January 26, 2011 I am not certain what metal the internals are made of but from further research I think this gun is actually a WOC-X even though eHobbyasia did not have it listed as such. TheFull9 Posted January 26, 2011 Report Share Posted January 26, 2011 The M7A1 is an odd exception to the normal rules, in that it's not labeled as a WOC-X, but internally it's the same as one. That's not just eHobby doing that, it's all retailers, the M7 is pretty much the last new model of WOC G&P came out with before they released the full WOC-X line, and never added the '-X' retrospectively. Price wise, it's a balancing act of sorts between internals and externals, because you pay the same price for this as you would a plain jane USGI style WOC M4A1 wit Colt receivers, LE stock and plastic handguards. It's just that those models have the steel internals, whereas this has the MRF, VLTOR stock and grip, Troy lower, MUR upper etc, and alu internals. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
davedawg123 Posted January 27, 2011 Report Share Posted January 27, 2011 As I recall, the very basic M4 with standard handguard and aluminum barrel cost $500. Ehobby lists the M7 at around $474. If you read the product description of the M7A1: -WA M4 Trigger Guard (WP25)-WA M4 Metal Sear -WA Metal Bolt Stop -WA SPR Type Cocking Handle (WP52) -WA M4 Hammer Lock (WP57) -WA Metal Magazine Catch -WA Metal Selector -WA Metal Forward Assist -WA M4 Aluminum Buffer (WP81A) Then one of the other WOC (non-X) guns: -WA M4 Trigger Guard (WP25)-WA Steel Stock Ring (WP26) -WA M4 Steel Sear (WP33) -WA M4 Bearing Hammer Pin Set (WP34) -WA Steel Bolt Stop (WP51) -WA SPR Type Cocking Handle (WP52) -WA M4 Hammer Lock (WP57) -WA Steel Magazine Catch (WP65) -WA Steel Selector (WP69) -WA Steel Forward Assist (WP76) However, that said, I agree with the slight misleading. It definitely should be labelled as an -X version, since the alu internals are the defining factors of those, and if they don't add it there's certainly implications to the fact the internals are steel, which is rather dodgy practice no denying it. SilentTank Posted January 29, 2011 Report Share Posted January 29, 2011 Yes they are aluminum internals however you save a bundle for the time being and eventually you can easy drop in taf or prime full steel internals and stay under the cost of a traditional woc!
