hey guys,

even though i think i already know the answer is no, is there a posibility that UKSF would use a tan/ CB RAV?

I'm looking at getting a RAV to be more UKSF, but all my other gear is CB/Tan. i dont really want to go through the ordeal of selling all my CB pouches to get the right colour green ones.

I guess the other option is to put my CB pouches on an OD/ Smoke green RAV, but i doubt this would look very authentic at all.

Also, a dimensional question: i find it hard to get PCs to fit me properly. im currently a 32-34" waist. how small can a RAV go?

Most vests being used are OD and not sure why choose a black BDU shirt?

BTW (open question to anyone) - why ARE the UK forces (SF and others) using OD vests in the main as opposed to a tan or DDPM version more approprate to the operational environment? Is it purely "off the shelf" availablilty?

The reason why Uk forces have switched to MTP in Afghan is because most ops are in the so called green zone. Wearing DDPM in the green zone is like wearing DDPM in woodland it does not work that well. OD works well with MTP especially once dirty.

All UK (specialised) forces, where able, seem to have been using OD MOLLE vests for quite some time now...well before MTP introduction was finalised. I was just wondering why really. I've seen plenty of SF's with mix of DDPM and DPM and OD vests as well as Pathfinder units in full DDPM and OD vests (few pictures on this thread) for example.

Meh...just curious, guess its more likely to be a matter of supply and the fact that OD can be made to "fit" different environments where as a Tan or DDPM couldn't?

Doing an SBS impression for an event coming up in December, and right now I need some help with it because I can not for the life of me find any pictures.

Looking to do an SBS impression, circa 2001 (Battle of Tora Bora). If anyone could help me figure out what they would wear (DPM, DDPM, etc) and what gear they would use (PLCE, chest rigs, etc) that would be fantastic.

Those images are from Qala-i-Jangi. There were specific reasons they took such a low profile look there, but if they were in the field they would have a more overt look. The look from Bloody Heroes would be my best guess for their appearance at Tora Bora.

Any additional bit of issue I have is with the spread of the SigTac vest idea. SigTac was not around in 2001, and if you take note there is a leather bit on one of them that obviously is not the SigTac logo. The pattern of vest has been around for ages and ages, and many companies make a variant of them. Royal Robbins, 5.11, SigTac, are just some of the bigger names. I in fact had a vest made for use in photography that was even modeled on the same design. As for the invariable question about what makers vests are seen in all the imagery? I have no guesses and will make none, but the logical answers are one based in the UK, or one in Afghanistan. Although in the end, whatever name is on the vest makes no difference as I mentioned earlier, they are all essentially identical.

Although the RAV I recently bought from a friend who is one of 'THEM' after it had spent some time in Afghanistan is tan, and he reckons there is a good mix of colours in use.

The same friend also told me about the common use of EPC's.

On the Tora bora subject it was very much a mixture of civilian hiking kit, Craghoppers, Northface etc and issue kit. In the pictures you'll see PLCE Assault vests, Arktis or issue chest rigs, M12 holsters with Sigs or brownings even the old combat body armour (CBA). The main "long" being the 16" Diemaco.
