The 7075T6 inokatsu receiver hype is a well known joke in Taiwan...

That's for Taiwan Deer OEM'd (rather than Viper OEM'd) receivers, IIRC.

Suzutomo Gun Tailoring does 'rolled on' style trades. [...] They've recently released a 7075T6 416 upper for PTW and will be bringing out a lower, shortly.

There's a big difference between 'rolled-on style' and rolled-on; they will be doing it with diamond dragging if not with a spindle cutter or laser because those three are pretty much the only forms of engraving you can do without vastly expensive specialised machinery. As you can see in this photo from their facebook page, their Colt-style lower receivers (identical to the one I'm doing) are engraved to look like roll-marking but they aren't roll-marked - there's no surface distortion from plastic deformation, which you get when you stamp into material. Their Colt receivers look to be diamond dragged (look at how indistinct the full stops are; that's a key signature of diamond dragging, which isn't deep enough to clearly define a single point) whereas their Daniel Defence ones look to be spindle-cutter engraved (look at the deep lines and vertical edges), just as the DD ones are in real life I should think. You can see how shallow the markings are on the SGT Colt receivers compared to the real thing, where Colt use massive pressure to force the die into the receiver. You simply can't do that with diamond dragging - the machines just aren't strong enough.

[EDIT]Here's a good example in one photo. You can see in the reference photo the plastic deformation around the stamped markings of the real receiver, whereas the SGT receiver (probably diamond-dragged, judging by the shallow markings) doesn't display the same effect. You can see that the Diemaco 'D' is neatly pressed into the reference receiver, whereas the serial number (added by a different machine, probably an air hammer in the same manner as serial numbers are applied to gas cylinders) is crudely and deeply smacked in below it; equally, the same applies to the rollmarked name and origin and the engraved NSN number, which will also have been added later. The SGT receiver, which has had all its markings done in the same fashion, displays none of these traits.[/EDIT]

SLR 8" SBR build done. Just waiting for a few accessories (sling end plate, AAC Blast Shield, Cloud Defensive LCS, and an actual working ScoutLight head) and repairing my BTC Spectre, but otherwise al

Hey all! I kind of stumbled upon this thread by accident while searching for M16A2 receiver markings on google and saw one of Catgut's amazing VT's. Which brought me here I have been working on

One of my latest build, a real Colt M16A1 converted for GBBR on the WA system. Stripped upper, barrel and BCG was changed to Viper Tech du to my local laws. Also a video of how it was made:

That's why I was a careful to say 'style'...but a great explanation of what that actually means. I didn't know half of that.

I think you raise a good point with the whole rolled on thing, in general. FCC are now also doing rolled on style trades. So only a matter of time before it becomes more widespread, I'd wager.

I hope to have the SGT 416 7075T6 upper in my hands tomorrow, if anyone is interested.

sitting home sick from work, snapped a pic of my G&G combat machine mk18 build awaiting a paint job and KWA sr-10 that I'm slowly turning into a blockII m4.. also needing a fresh paintjob...

still need KAC style rear sights on both, need a 14" barrel and new flashhider on the blockII, the mk18 needs a cqb length inner barrel so I can take the silencer off once in a while.

Is there anything I'm forgetting or overlooking? I'll probably keep the blockII stripped down since it's my field gun, no need for lights and lasers. Maybe an Elcan spectre or a magnifier for the Eotech.

where can I mailorder camo paints from? my local hardware doesn't carry krylon camo series anymore.  I was thinking maybe tamiya model paints or dropping $$ on brownells or something - recomendations?

Brownell's paint (Alumahyde) takes a long time to cure and leaves a thick, tough coat.  It's like a cheaper, simpler alternative to DuraCoat.  If you want to do a long lasting solid or camo paintjob with a "clean" look I'd recommend spending the extra for DuraCoat; it's available in more colors, flatter finishes, and goes on thinner.

For "dirty" camouflage and general airsoft use I like Aervoe--easy to apply, somewhat removable, inexpensive, and comes in lots of useful matte colors.  I get it from DSG Arms or Tactical Concealment.

Both Alumahyde and Aervoe nozzles have a nasty tendency to clog.

This MK18 RISII clone has a base coat of Daniel Defense FDE DuraCoat, with Aervoe khaki dusted on then wiped off.
