Hey all! I kind of stumbled upon this thread by accident while searching for M16A2 receiver markings on google and saw one of Catgut's amazing VT's. Which brought me here I have been working on

One of my latest build, a real Colt M16A1 converted for GBBR on the WA system. Stripped upper, barrel and BCG was changed to Viper Tech du to my local laws. Also a video of how it was made:

Funny how the long piped M16 style with bipods and long scopes

seems to become modern again eversince Lone Survivor has been around.

Didn't actually think a movie would have such an effect on peoples choices of weapons.

But than again it might be mostly the modelbuilders.....

Since not even the MOD 1 is an official designation I am rather surprised to hear about a MOD 2...

Recces/SPRs are around for years (both airsoft and RS), you might want to educate yourself before bashing on people like Ivan who has been posting here for years. Even on the first page of this topic there is an SPR. I do not doubt that you are right on the Lone Survivor movie hype, but here you are not right.

Not for nothing, but Mk12's are generally used with "mid-range" scopes which are a bit shorter...the one in Ivan's photo looks more like a long range scope.

"Mid-range" scopes usually have turrets that are already set to 5.56/77gr or something similar.

This is my NAVSPEC RECON scope made by Night Force...it's a "middle range" scope, shorter than Leupold's LR/T's. I also have a TS-30A2, both are extremely effective.
