ninja master of coffee
I could see this adding an interesting element to a milsim scenario, provided two things, first that its actually used effectively with good info dissemination. Second that the scenario is balanced out in some way. If you have a smaller, more technologically advanced side and a larger, more guerilla side this could make for a really interesting scenario. I dont think such a game would be necessarily unbalanced, useful as a drone could be it still makes a lot more noise than say a stealthy recce group and while it is an eye in the sky it doesn't have thermal imaging, something that makes real drones very difficult to dodge in anything but the densest cover. Obviously in a regular skirmish it would either be a distraction or an unfair advantage that would have people saying "what the *fruitcage*?"
SOUTHPAWMIKE
Thanks for all the comments, positive or negative. Here are some videos I took with it the other day: I wasn't an active participant in this game. I was just trying to get the hang of the thing, especially with the wind being a big issue. Tinkerton
Hmm, here's an idea. What about tieing a helium baloon (on a 3 foot length of string) to the top/centre of the UAV? that way, the enemy team have something to shoot at without damaging the UAV itself, there's a very obvious target to both shoot at and see if it needs shooting at, and it wouldnt cost that much. Danke
I think a non-helium ballon with a fishing weight would work better, less chance of collateral damage if your'e firing under rather than over.

More like 30 - and even then, i'd put money on the UAV getting blatted first. If the UAV is above you, and the balloon is above it......yeah, you can guess the rest!
scorch
Also, he did just say he had wind issues. What do you think would happen with a balloon tied to the thing?
Vice
If your site is organised enough to let you use this: Give a member of the opposition an RPG esque weapon. If the player can target the drone for 10 seconds, marshall can then radio / tell you to take it out of the sky. An alternative is to use a laser tag type system, play with RPG laser targets UAV and hits. You take it out of the sky. You could place one of the receiver LED's in the corner of the camera lens so you can tell when it has been hit. There will still be some pillocks who point AEG's at it though. ninja master of coffee
At a regular skirmish day, it will get targeted eventually, you just can't stop some idiot turnig up and flouting the rules. At a milsim scenario I don't think that would be an issue, you'd just have to work on balancing the game, quite how is up to you and the game organizers. No one wants to play a blatantly unbalanced game, at the same time, having new and interesting elements is good to try. How much of an advantage the UAV is something you need to figure out with some testing games. Obviously the more used to using it a team gets the of an advantage it will be. To be honest this kind of thing is going to start impacting on milsim games anyway. The tech is all available and at not ridiculous prices.
