New to airsoft!

Hi guys,

I'm new to airsoft and can't wait to dive in!

I've been doing my research and learnt a lot but I still have a few questions I'd like to ask before I get started playing.

1) For my first gun, I was thinking of getting the Warrior L96 in Two Tone from here: http://www.geniestuff.co.uk/airsoft-sniper-rifle-l96-mk3-mb01-two-tone.htm ..... Would this be a good choice? I enjoy being a sniper, it's something I've always wanted to do if I joined the army. Some people advise not to go as a sniper if you're a beginner because I might get bored... well, I don't mind waiting around for a target to appear if thats what they mean but if anyone can elaborate on this then that'd be great.

2) Do other players frown upon Two Tone guns?

3) With me being a noob and all, would I look silly turning up on my first go with a Sniper Rifle? Especially in Two Tone?

4) Would I be able to cover my gun in this tape: http://www.airsoftworld.net/web-tex-camouflage-tape-dpm.html... when I get to the skirmish? I don't really want a bright green gun in a battle... I'd feel kinda silly.

5) What gear is required for a skirmish? I know protective eyewear, a gun, ammo and boots is essential but anything else?

6) Do I need specific camo? Or I can wear any camo I choose?

7) When I get UKARA, I'm thinking of wearing all black camo and buying this RIF: http://www.actionhobbies.co.uk/G-G-GR16-R5-M16-RIS-AEG-Metal-Body_AZK4G.aspx would this be a good choice?

8) If I bought a pistol does it need to be in Two Tone as well because I dont have UKARA yet?

9) My birthday is coming up in a couple of months, would I be able to bring a group of 10-15 mates to a skirmish? And would they be able to hire all the gear needed on the day?

Thanks guys, appreciate the help :)

Snipers are very difficult to use in airsoft, they're not like CoD, you have no more effective range, and you have a very slow rate of fire, above and beyond that, a lot of the ACM snipers have very poor QC and you may end up with a gun that can't actually hit anything even at medium ranges.

Your best bet is to get an AEG, the G&G Combat machine's that I think you linked to a bit later (I'm lazy and didn't check exactly :P) Are very good starter guns.

2) Do other players frown upon Two Tone guns?

Not in general, but there are always some snobby players. We've all gotta start somewhere and in todays day and age, it means for some, 2-tones is the answer. Remember you need to be 18 to purchase even a 2-tone gun.

3) With me being a noob and all, would I look silly turning up on my first go with a Sniper Rifle? Especially in Two Tone?

Just a little, you may get lucky and get a well built ACM gun that provides you with at least some effective range, but chances over you'll wander round not really hitting anything and getting hosed for you troubles.

4) Would I be able to cover my gun in this tape: http://www.airsoftworld.net/web-tex-camouflage-tape-dpm.html... when I get to the skirmish? I don't really want a bright green gun in a battle... I'd feel kinda silly.

That's a legal grey area, you'd best off asking the site you intend to play at whether they think this would be acceptable.

5) What gear is required for a skirmish? I know protective eyewear, a gun, ammo and boots is essential but anything else?

Good footwear, a full face mask is highly recommended until you're more experienced. Sensei make excellent masks at a very reasonable price. You can hire a gun and buy ammo on-site. I usually buy ammo on site as lots of sites have taken to only using their own ammo these days.

6) Do I need specific camo? Or I can wear any camo I choose?

Nope, anything is good. DPM is cheap and plentiful and works quite well in the UK. But I've played in a variety of camo's, from DPM to DDPM, to a farmers outfit. I'd recommend the DPM though, you can find it cheap enough to not bust the bank.

7) When I get UKARA, I'm thinking of wearing all black camo and buying this RIF: http://www.actionhobbies.co.uk/G-G-GR16-R5-M16-RIS-AEG-Metal-Body_AZK4G.aspx would this be a good choice?

As I mentioned above, G&G Combat machines without blowback are very good starter guns.

8) If I bought a pistol does it need to be in Two Tone as well because I dont have UKARA yet?

Yes.

9) My birthday is coming up in a couple of months, would I be able to bring a group of 10-15 mates to a skirmish? And would they be able to hire all the gear needed on the day?

You'll need to phone in advance for that many extras, most sites don't expect that level of additional rental influx.

Thanks guys, appreciate the help :)

I think it's more of a case of having much more to learn. you've got to worry about camoflage, precison aiming ect far more when you are working as a sniper, along with all the basics. I'd say you'd be better off waiting a while, getting the hang of how the game works as a less specialist player, before going sniper

2) Do other players frown upon Two Tone guns?

3) With me being a noob and all, would I look silly turning up on my first go with a Sniper Rifle? Especially in Two Tone?

depends on the site. some are very hardcore milsim, and won't like 2-tone. but I think most places won't mind.

5) What gear is required for a skirmish? I know protective eyewear, a gun, ammo and boots is essential but anything else?

for your first few games, you just need sturdy footwear (preferably boots) and suitable clothing. eye protection can usually be borrowed/rented from the site, and ammo can just be carried in your pockets.

once you've got you'r own gun, and are running several mags, you may have to worry about carrying ammo (vest, beltkit or whatever).

6) Do I need specific camo? Or I can wear any camo I choose?

you can wear whatever cammo you like. most guys in the UK seem to go for DPM, just because it's easily available from any army surplus shop, but if you want to wear something more exotic, the world is your oyster!

8) If I bought a pistol does it need to be in Two Tone as well because I dont have UKARA yet?

yes.

9) My birthday is coming up in a couple of months, would I be able to bring a group of 10-15 mates to a skirmish? And would they be able to hire all the gear needed on the day?

No reason why not. although it would be worth having a word with your site, to sort out booking the group beforehand. some sites also do private days, like paintball sites do, so it's just you and your mates.

Hello,

As a sniper in airsoft, I also recommend to begin with an AEG.. You know, to have a good spring bolt action (I mean that you have the effective range to not fear AEG bb's) you have to upgrade almost everything on the airsoft gun.. Accuracy = new barrel (PDI is my favourite brand with their 6.01 and 6.04) maybe a new hop up, barrels spacers, FPS = spring.. and if you upgrade the FPS, your trigger box's sears will break... => new trigger box or new sears..

Finally, you'll change all cylindre kit to have the perfect airtight to gain more range and constant FPS.. All those upgrades don't apply to gaz bolt action, but you may change the hop up bucking and the barrel too to have a better accuracy.

Last but not least, remember that sniper is not just a man with an airsoft gun and a scope, it's a mentality.

If all these things don't scare you, then you can try and, surely, find a new way to enjoy airsoft ! :)
