I forgot to share you some pictures of my new paintjob: And even if it's not 100% linked, I finished my new loadout video with which main gun? The SRU GHK G5 of course! You can see the G5 durin

So with GHK G5 in my hands its time for a quick first impressions. This will be a bit of a wall of text as my camera was not paying ball, nor do I own a photo studio like just about everyone on the A

So update on my airsplat order: Gave them a call and they were out of stock for the black one. Either i wait until the end of december to pick up a black one or take a tan one that they currently have in stock at the moment. Looks like ill be getting a tan GHK!

For the samoon, looks like a good deal. I may pick some up from there if it's cheaper than getting it stateside! I never ordered from them before. How are they?

I've just ordered my very own black G5, plus 4 spare mags from Redwolf HK, since they currently have a 15% discount on EVERYTHING* (*Not actually everything - certain brands excluded) until 5th January.

"Man Maths" calculated as follows: Perceived Xmas money £170 (actual Xmas money £100, as me and my sister agreed not to swap £70 vouchers/cash to each other this year, lol)

G5 ($251) = £150
Mags ($45 each x4) = £27 each (£108)
Shipping = ($60) = £37

So the gun was basically paid for by Xmas gift money. I just need to pay for the extra mags.

£295 in total, which is only £30 more than it would have cost me to buy the G5 alone in the UK. I just need to pay import duty of around £50-60. So I'm basically getting 2 extra mags over what it would have cost me to buy the gun and 2 spare mags in the UK.

As you can see the "Man Maths" made sense, so I bought it, lol.

Make sure you picm up an azimuth speed recoil buffer as the two black ones I got had the metal clip and not the reinforced version of the lower receiver. Helps with the rof as well...

Where does one pick up this speed recoil buffer? I'm hoping there's a stateside vendor rather than ordering from WGC.

Just pick it up from wgc. Pick the cheapest shipping option available. You don't need it soon as its pretty cold this time of the year. If you can wait 10 days...its all worth it.:)

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4 using Tapatalk 2

I'm in Florida, so no worries about the cold. The store I ordered from won't have them in stock till mid January, so I guess I'll get that order going now. Should I order any spare parts while I'm at it?

I'm also wondering what you guys are experiencing as far as performance differences with the dmr and carbine kits

There's not much to them, the longer barrels will rise your FPS (to about 390-410 with the Carbine, and 420-440 with the DMR). This will mean a good bit more distance compared to the stock set up. The gun shoots OK at about 150 feet stock, so expect OK performance at the 190-200s with the kits (with a properly adjusted hop up, that is).

Thanks Fox. Do you have any photos of your DMR kit installed by chance? Just curious as to how it looks kitted out.

I guess I'll be ordering the hepaestus aluminum cocking handle and the Azimuth speed rubber while I wait for the gun to come in.

Doesn't seem like you guys are having much issues with parts failing other than the cracks on the receivers which hopefully will be addressed on this next batch.

As mentioned in this thread, I've had issues with (even new) buckings breaking (on *three* G5s), and I've come to the conclusion it has to do with dry firing, as all three guns, after not doing any more dry firing, haven't shredded a bucking yet (might be just chance). Might make sense since to dry fire the gun you actually have to remove the bolt catch (no dry firing option like on the mags of WE guns).

Anyway, as for the DMR kit, I don't actually have it (I have a carbine kit). I just tried an inner of the same length on my gun. The kit is the same as the carbine one except a longer inner and the outer bull barrel. I'm not a huge fan of it. Here's a pic from WGC though:

My black G5 has arrived! Wow, it's very small and light, but also very solid. Mine must have been made after October 2013, as it's thankfully the reinforced gen.2 receiver.

No mag or stock wobble. Flash hider seemed to come loose fairly easily, so I'll need to watch that. Mags fit very securely and all feed fine.

First thing I did was take the base plate off my 5 mags to tighten the two bits (technical term for use by highly trained specialists only) to stop the common leaks, but I have to say that they were all about 97% fully tight already.

For my 6'3" frame I'm using the stock at either 2nd from last, or fully extended position. Haven't decided which is best yet.

Initial testing sitting indoors with the window open to the cold (5C?) garden, puts FPS between 310-325, on Abbey Brut and Ultra gasses. FPS consistency could have been better, but still a nice high number for CQB use.

It's loud, has a lovely kick and is crisp on semi. Full auto is ok, but I don't like the feel of it (seems fragile or weird or something) so I'll stick to semi.

Range with .25g BB's is fantastic! Just as good, if not slightly better than my AEG's (TM recoil included) and TM pistols, which surprised me! Accuracy is pretty good, albeit deviates a bit at max range. I bought it for CQB purposes, but it'll easily do woodland too.

Having never owned anything close to an armalite (I must be a fairly rare breed of airsofter), I don't have much in the way of RIS attachments, fancy sights, Magpul parts etc, to tart her up, so I've only fitted my TM tracer unit so far and just discovered that my Streamlight TLR-1S pistol light will work too, until I get a dedicated rifle light.

Overall, I'm very happy with my new toy. Now to skirmish her...

Well my G5 happily flinged BB's in the chilly temperatures we had yesterday which were well below 10 degrees. No need for full auto but there was no problem with some brisk firing.

Having gotten an early pre-reinforced release I was looking at the azimuth speed rubber but rather than pay shipping for a $1 item does anone have the dimensions so I can see if I can make one up?

Cheers

Guys, if you would like to discuss the G5 further, share your experiences or see what other owners have done to theirs, you can join the recently created Facebook page "GHK G5 GBB Owners Group".

I have no affiliation with it's creation or management. Just a member.
