Gear question for M203/Grenadiers

I'm wondering how you guys carry your 40mms. I finally took my 203 to a large scale cqb event and was very pleased with how effective it is in an extremely dynamic CQB environment. I ran 7 40mm, 6 on my TAG banshee cummerbund and 1 in the tube. It worked but was pretty uncomfortable and lopsided feeling (I don't put anything on my right side it hinders sidearm draw). I found it difficult pulling 40mms out of the back pouches since I wear the PC high on my body.

Because the 203 was so effective I want to step it up to 12-13 40mm for the next event in 3 months and I'm eying up a 40mm belt/bandolier however there is a ton of differant types.

What do you guys use? If you use a bandolier which type? Thanks in advance.

Well, I personally don't run as many shells as you, but what I did was take two old USGI LBVs (one for riflemen and the other for grenadiers) apart and combine them into one like in this pic(not mine, but damn near identical): http://i.imgur.com/Wej88TL.jp

A five minute job, carries all my nades for the M203, and all my AR mags, distributed between the mag pockets and the belt pouches.

For your particular setup, you could certainly try getting a belt load going with more 'nade pouches if you want to keep your right side free.

I've never used a grenade launcher myself, but I've seen one or two people going for it with these: http://www.skdtac.com/Tactical-Tailor-40mm-M203-Belt-p/1tt.177.htm

Can't find a link for it, but I've also seen something that resembles a SAW pouch that folds open and has two rows of loop each holding 3 shells - wouldn't really help you feel less lop-sided, but maybe you could mount it closer to the front/back of your PC?

Alternatively, go for a belt kit and mount them on there how you have them on your cummerbund now - the belt would help spread the load more evenly I guess.

TT belt is nice option and often seen in use with real operators. 2 of my teammates are using it for small hand grenades, heard nothing bad about it from them.

For CQB you can also try drop-leg panel with few rows of 203 pouches for carry and few grenades on your PC/rig for fast access.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have a tt belt and it is a strong bit of kit. I'm considering buying another and then running them down the straps of my webbing (from shoulder to belt, basically). could go all out and get a 40mm vest.

there are also some 40mm split-front chest rigs made in DPM + the isralie 40mm tac vest (looks huge though)

Go old school with the grenade vest. You may need to sell a kidney to actually fill it all though.

I'd go with a drop leg and pouches on your vest for a more modern look. I've been meaning to pick up one of the PLCE 40mm drop legs for a while.
