Tommygunn
I need to do a repair to a piece of WW2 German rubber with has been torn. What is the best glue to use; Superglue (CA) or a Vulcanising glue e.g. from a bicycle tyre repair kit? Any ideas? Tom.
renegadecow
Cyanoacrylate will hold it, but if it's gonna get wet often or subjected to high enough heat (is that a brake pad?) it's gonna break down easy. Same goes for contact cement. Best bet would be vulcanizing rubber as older rubbers have more natural rubber than extenders in them making them ideal for that sort of repair. Tommygunn
Brake pad, far from it. It is a bump stop for my Lafette 42 which is attached to the T&E mech so it can come to rest when collapsed for carrying. Restoration: http://www.mg42.us/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=12162 It's in the centre of the cradle behind the alloy optics block. I think I will go with Vulcanising glue. Tom.
