dl295
Hi, Been looking at putting together an Aussie Vietnam loadout, seems there's a huge mix of British & US kit in use, some using M56 webbing and M16's and some using SLR's and 58 pattern stuff, Even Uniform isn't that clear as there is a mix of US issue and British style lightweight uniforms. As getting hold of an SLR isn't easy I'm thinking of having M16 with M203, And kit is fairly easy to source. Any Ideas/Advice?

Inkall
Seems you're going about it the right way, I had a wee look into the same stuff recently when I was looking for less commonly seen skirmish gear. Certainly when it comes to weapons I've seen a fair few pictures out there of Aussie soldiers with american guns. Found a pretty nice page about webbing here : http://iacmc.forumotion.com/t86-australian-load-bearing-equipment-of-the-vietnam-war Also the book "Saddle Up: Australian Load Carrying Equipment of British,American and Local Origin" by Rick Landers which covers from the 1780s all the way up to late 1990s could be useful if you can find a scan of it, being a large hardback it's kind of an expensive buy unless you are really interested. dl295
That site confirmed most of what I'd seen, Didn't realise the US stuff was actually contracted though.
frogfish
Some of it was "sourced", there are stories of ANZAC troopers sneaking into barracks and stealing ERDLs....
weka
For Aussies it was more 44" pattern webbing mixed with m56 gear and a longer version of the m56 mag pouch for SLR mags identical to these ones made post-Vietnam issued to kiwis into the early 2000's: http://www.kiwidisposals.co.nz/webbing/417-nz-army-steyr-pouch The 38 and 44 pattern mag pouches had slits cut for the belt to make them hang low, SAS belt order style. Some more inspiration below and the osprey book on ANZAC's is an excellent source too: http://www.vietnam-airsoft.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1998

dl295
Found the JG uniform fairly cheaply, dubious about the seller though (WPG), heard mixed reviews about them from a fair few people.
Porkchop
Digging up an old thread for some new info ( get it digger?) Horrible, ain't it? http://stores.ebay.ca/AUSSIE-DIGGER-MILITARIA/VIETNAM-CLOTHING-KIT-/_i.html?_fsub=10&_sid=15253141&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322 Lovely little place for repro uniforms. Bought a number of times there now, and I have had good experiences. Being in Oz, shipping is two and a half kidneys, but hey, who needs kidneys?
