bankz5152
Just came across this - MegaBots | Making the world more epic, one giant robot at a time. MegaBots At New York Comic Con - Business Insider I think its amazing what they are trying to do and I hope it comes to fruition! Soon as im paid im pledging some cash. If only I had $1m for my own
FireKnife
This looks to me like that classic BBC show Robot Wars............ but on COCAINE!!!!!!! However would be good to see what comes of it. 'FireKnife'
Hardcore1-6
I've always said the instant they have Mechs in the Army i'm transfering to their corps. This looks incredible. Now I can be a commercial mech pilot and wear aviator sunglasses in night clubs.
bankz5152
I've always said the instant they have Mechs in the Army i'm transfering to their corps. This looks incredible. Now I can be a commercial mech pilot and wear aviator sunglasses in night clubs. Exactly my thoughts. Read about them yesterday but didnt think too much off it until I saw the Business Insider article. Mainly that they are ex DoD engineers and physicists. $10k gets your own logo on the mech! Essentially you define the brand. I so hope this takes off!

Hardcore1-6
I know i'll be drunk at 4am in the next few days penning a CV.
-Drake-
This is just utterly stupid, but also kinda cool... However its clearly its a typical kickstarter cash grab, with no possible chance of ever coming into fruition.
shmook
Brilliant, until the bit where they said they have guns, and 2 people sit in them. Really? That's going to be on tv is it? Not going to happen. Even if they just punch the *suitcase* out of each other, who funds it? Robot wars was fine, as costs would be relatively low. Imagine 2 of these knocking 7 bells out of each other. Thousands of pounds smashed to bits. No one can afford that. To fix my whining, these need to be militarised immediately, and fitted with chinese drone-killing laser and other cool *suitcase*
bankz5152
Im currently looking into the original backer. Who funded them $2mil to start with. Not to mention these arnt your run of the mil engineers. Ex Darpa, ex DoD etc.. Also who the hell knows what will be on tv, have you seen US tv? I mean look at the *suitcase* they come out with. That laser is amazing to say the least.
Habakure
So they just hit each other (the robots with two blokes in them), till one can't fight anymore? Or is there a pin system or some kind of 'hey, you've won, because after 5 minutes, you've still got one leg working!'.
FireKnife
'hey, you've won, because after 5 minutes, you've still got one leg working!'. 'FireKnife'
bankz5152
They shoot giant paintballs at 120mph from multiple various launchers. Its not the film Real Steel lol Fireknife wins it.
Hardcore1-6
Paintballs. So that 10k you've spent to get www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums splashed on the side is going to be covered up almost instantly?
FireKnife
Paintballs. So that 10k you've spent to get www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums splashed on the side is going to be covered up almost instantly? Covered by paintballs. Not ironic but something like that, you know. Hardcore1-6
Part of me is searching for an innuendo. The rest of me is searching for a good doctor - it's a 15ft high robot man! Covering that isn't normal.
FireKnife
Part of me is searching for an innuendo. The rest of me is searching for a good doctor - it's a 15ft high robot man! Covering that isn't normal. Next you will be telling us you are into AT-AT porn (yeah, it is a thing). Though I am sure there is an innuendo in there somewhere but my brain isn't exactly focussed today. 'FireKnife'
bankz5152
Seriously? AT-AT porn? Jesus. There's a video somewhere of them testing their 'rocket launcher' against a half built mech with a canon. Guy gets splattered with paint tis rather funny! Just imagine if this did become a world wide sport in the next 5 years, I would quit my job and become a pilot in an instant.
FireKnife
Yep, it is a thing but I can't provide evidence as at work (it is basically just AT-ATs superimposed into the doggy position). I want airsoft practical pistol to become more popular, perhaps should start a Kickstarter for that then . Seems like this is getting interest but then with crowd funding, so long as it is something people can enjoy it always will. 'FireKnife'
Hardcore1-6
Hold up, what if the robots had airsoft weapons? Then the games would be like when you're hiding behind an oildrum or sheet of wriggly tin. DINKADINKADINKAINDKNAINDAKNIDNAINDAKa
bankz5152
That would be incredible. Though more difficult to register hits! One thing I have seen on few kickstarters is that its often used to raise 'extra cash'. i.e its on what like 50k now but then on the deadline they suddenly get an extra couple mil. Well that AT-AT thing is a worry.. yet also hilarious.
FireKnife
Anybody think TAG shells would be good for this with a rotor launcher as the kind of typical 'limited grenade / missile weapon' you get on mech suits. If the people are properly enclosed thn why not? 'FireKnife'
bankz5152
Who knows how it will evolve. Adding pyro launchers would be amazing, I wonder why there are two pilots though. One for weapons for to movement? or One for torso and up and one does the legs?
scorch
I think I read it was pilot and gunner.
Hardcore1-6
Not left side and right side? And they have to work in unison. Pretty sure this has been done before.
Horsem4n
From what it looks like. Its a paintball form of the game mech warriors. No mellee, no robots getting dammaged, just an ultra expensive game of paintball. No thanks. The fully autonomous mech part is cool. But the whole "we want to be the next nascar" makes it sound like that failure of a robot boxing show that was on syfy a little while ago.
