How does dental care work in the UK?

I find it bonkers that some people almost never need a doctor yet need a dentist regularly, and have to pay.

And notice how many companies will give private medical as a benefit these days, but never dental.

Most of the work my dentist does is repairing badly done NHS fillings from the 1970's as they wear out.

So update on mine, I got to see someone who actually knows about teeth last week, instead of someone who pushes paper around.

8 minutes later I walk out with a new filling.

Dentistry is fine, bureaucracy is a pain.

{edit} Alternate joke: Bureaucracy leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
