danr
Just bought a used 1911 that has a Nova mainspring housing. It holds the hammer spring in with a pin that runs front to back. I'm used to the TM style of hammer spring retainer (the little brass plug thing that fits in the side). Having never dealt with this kind, I'm not sure which way to remove the pin. I've tried to tap it out both ways, but it didn't budge. How do I take the hammer spring out of this piece? Thanks.
icolater
Pin comes out from the rear, take tension from the hammer Spring before trying to remove the pin.
danr
From the rear referring to: Push pin from side that is normally exposed to the side that normally butts up against the frame? That's what I figured. I'm guessing that taking the tension off the spring was my problem. I tried it but never found a good way to do it. Looks like I'll be jury-rigging some clamps and punches this evening. Thanks.
