chas
And probably with the same price tag... hefty, especially if you compare it to what King Arms used to charge for theirs.
hitmanNo2
Have Ares upped their game? If not...
Gunmane
Sigh, why does ares keep tugging at my heartstrings knowing I won't deal with them.
cazboab
Last few weeks I've been thinking "I should get back into active airsofting" I didn't know why. Now I do.
Panzergraf
And probably with the same price tag... hefty, especially if you compare it to what King Arms used to charge for theirs. Well the KA was light and flimsy. I don't know about the ARES, they were all out of stock and impossible to find last time I was shopping for an FAL. The gearbox will probably be mediocre at best, being an ARES, but that can be remedied.
Colin_The+Ferret
Back in the day I trained on the wood version before they let us shoot the plastic ones. Oh the nostalgia...
3vi1-D4n
ARES always had a good mechbox and QD spring. Issue isn't those components, issues its the piston and motor. Here are all the issues with the ARES from my experience: - Push down on the foregrip and FPS drops. The mechbox is misaligned a fraction to the barrel and does not seal air to the airnozzle. - Alu pencil barrel and pot metal receiver bends too easily under combat condition - Piston head breaks (clear polycarb is no good) - Cheap motor overheats and seizes - Front sight post is not secured and gets knocked around under combat conditions. - ARES Scope mount is not aligned resulting in crosshair misalignment particularly with ACOGs and Elcans. Thats really about it. If they fixed the first 2 issues from factory, everything else that fails is acceptable. I still have the original STAR/ARES version. I fixed the mechbox alignment issue my adding screws to the receiver "shim" the mechbox back into alignment, but still doesn't fix the Alu pencil barrel issue.

harborne blue
Hopefully this will spur KA into action and they'll start making them again. My FAL is rock solid and probably still my favourite long arm - amazing range, great ROF and <just works>!
farrasdevell
Many pre order options but none for the wood kit option
M4_Fanatic
Has anyone else seen the Youtube video where it shows the new Ares L1A1 being around 2" shorter than the old Ares L1A1?For the amount of money I was going to pay for it... I kind of expected it to be a half decent replica (externally) to the real thing... ie: the correct barrel length...
Mike 8-{>
Has anyone else seen the Youtube video where it shows the new Ares L1A1 being around 2" shorter than the old Ares L1A1? You mean this video from Patrol Base? They do say it is a pre-production prototype so there is a slim chance it could be full length by the time it reaches production? The vid does cover some other interesting points:- * The rifle is semi only but a full auto safety is likely to be released later. * The take down catch on the rear left of the rifle is best disabled or you risk damaging the hop up. M4_Fanatic
Aye, that's the one!Knew it was a shop but couldn't remember who.As unlikely as it'll be, I certainly hope so.I've told my local shop to order a wood one for me as soon as they're available and I'm not going to lie... I'd be disappointed if it's the wrong length (considering I'm getting it primarily for display purposes)!
Habakure
There's a comment on that video asking if it's just the barrel that's too short, or if the stock, main body (receiver) and front hand guard, are also too short (it could be just the barrel from the front sight, to the flash hider, that's too short). Mike 8-{>
Patrol Base have a photo on their facebook page, sadly not replicated in the video or on their website. (I hesitate to copy it here, and I cant find it elsewhere on the web but here's a FB link for those who do FB Clicky Linky to long FB link) It shows, I believe, a real (deac) L1A1, An Original Star L1A1, A King Arms and the new Ares. All 4 are the same size in pretty much every respect (the wood furniture on the real one does seem larger than the polymer furniture) other than the shorter barrel on the new Ares. Mike 8-{>
Ares have just posted photos of the wood version with replica sight on Facebook Facebook link requires FB account... Also http://www.aresairsoft.com/slr.html

harborne blue
The barrel is too short. *fruitcage*'s sake, ARES, you had ONE job. And it's not like they didn't have all the plans and tooling from the last time they made these, for <fruits> sake... !

M4_Fanatic
Speaking of the dimensions, I've messaged Ares last week and they assured me it was correct... so I linked them to the video... they have since gone quiet.Has anyone seen the actual production/ for sale models and can find out if they have fixed the length?
